Posting Details Business Title Clinical Assistant Professor Department Health Science and Human Performance Posting Category Faculty Salary Plan Faculty - AAUP Job Summary The Department of Health Sciences & Human Performance (HSHP) in the College of Health at Cleveland State University is seeking to fill a nine-month, tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor position beginning August 17, 2026.
Primary duties for the position include teaching courses in the Exercise and Health Sciences programs; assisting with clinical education and lab supervision; being involved in ongoing curriculum development/evaluation; mentoring/advising students; and providing academic, professional, and/or community service. This position will also assist with accreditation support, coordination and clinical supervision, clinical compliance, assessments of student learning, and the development of community partnerships. This is an on-campus position.
The Department of Health Sciences & Human Performance offers innovative undergraduate and graduate programs, including a CAAHEP-accredited Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with two distinct tracks (General and Pre-Physical Therapy) and a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with six distinct tracks (Pre-Physical Therapy, Pre-Occupational Therapy, Pre-Physician Assistant Science, Health Promotion, General Interest, and Associate Degree Completion). The department is housed in the College of Health (COH), along with the departments of Physical Therapy, Communication Sciences & Disorders, Occupational Therapy, Music Therapy, the School of Social Work, and the School of Nursing. Together, the COH offers more than 23 undergraduate and graduate programs in health professions, nursing programs, social work, and related certificate programs all designed to provide clinical and experiential learning, interprofessional practice, and scholarship opportunities. The COH operates two on-site health clinics that provide hands-on training to our students and health care to our communities. The College of Health is committed to preparing highly qualified practitioners to meet the needs of all individuals in the ever-changing healthcare, fitness, and wellness landscapes.

- Earned Doctorate in Exercise Science, Health Science, Health Education, Human Performance, Kinesiology or related field by June 1, 2026. Persons who are ABD will be hired at the rank of Instructor.
- Minimum of three years of clinically relevant work experience;
- Ability to teach a variety of core courses in the HSHP Department, including exercise physiology, health promotion, wellness, anatomy and physiology, and related core courses;
- Evidence of strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate and work in teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in teaching, especially in higher education, both in person and online (e.g. full university course coordination, teaching in an accredited program, graduate level teaching, and other teaching such as continuing education and guest lectures);
- Experience integrating technology into teaching;
- Relevant industry certifications/licensures (e.g. ACSM, GXMO, CHES, NBHWC, NSCA, CSCS);
- Professional, academic, and/or community service and/or leadership (e.g. active involvement in professional/community organizations, evidence of committee work, community volunteer in health-related activities, advocacy efforts, etc.);
- Familiarity with curriculum development, evaluation, and assessment aligned with accreditation standards;
- Experience with clinical education coordination and supervision of students in laboratory and clinical settings.
