Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The primary function of this role is to coordinate freight and LTL shipments, as well as schedule and dispatch Suttle-Straus drivers for pick-ups and deliveries. The Freight Coordinator works directly with Client Services, Production, Outside Services Coordinator, Fulfillment, Shipping, Delivery Drivers, and all carriers. The goal of this position is to ensure product is shipped to destinations in a quality and timely manner.

Key Results Areas (KRAs):

1: Coordinate accurate and complete freight and delivery shipments

• Serve as the Distribution Department’s primary contact for freight and LTL shipments, and local pick-ups and deliveries
• Review schedules and ship screens to ensure shipments are made on a timely basis
• Ensure that product is properly packaged and prepared for shipment
• Plan and prepare large projects for shipment
• Perform Final QC process to ensure that job requirements have been met
• Communicate with internal delivery staff to ensure they understand requirements
• Use the most effective rate/service for our shipments
• Complete necessary paperwork for domestic and international shipments
• Accurately capture labor and materials in ERP system

2: Coordinate efficient delivery of customer product

• Organize the necessary paperwork by carrier and/or date
• Organize shipments by carrier and departure date
• Enter shipping and delivery charges in the ERP system
• Maintain and improve shipping process efficiency as measured in the department metric

3: Actively engage in Continuous Improvement & Safety

• Follow safety policies and procedures
• Perform 5S duties
• Communicate and collaborate with team members
• Share your job knowledge and experience
• Stay current with freight industry trends
• Monitor and compare carrier rates
• Actively participate in reducing organizational rework
• Assist in root cause analysis
• Understand, maintain and create Standard Work documentation

Qualifications

Skills & Educational Requirements:

• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to multi-task
• Ability to work under pressure
• Prior shipping and transportation experience
• Good computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to operate pallet truck
