Job Summary
The Horizon Recovery Driver is responsible for providing safe, timely, and professional transportation for adolescent clients. This position must also be fully trained and maintain competency in all aspects of the Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) role. When transportation needs are low, the Driver may be required to fill in as a BHT where there is a need, supporting clients and the Clinical/Operations Team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Transportation
- Ensure safe and timely pick-up and drop-off for all transportation needs. Including but not limited to: any appointments, intakes, location transfers, court dates, discharge facilities, and any urgent needs such as higher levels of care or emergency room visits.
- Travel only to and from the scheduled destinations, maintaining the same adherence to program rules and professional boundaries expected on-site.
- Assist with any company transport needs staff may require.
- Help move furniture and equipment between Horizon Recovery locations when requested.
- Safely operate company vehicles and perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and promptly report maintenance needs.
- Communicate immediately with house supervisors if problems arise or if unable to complete assigned transports.
- Maintain accurate transport logs, mileage records, and client sign-in/out documentation.
- Check and adhere to their assigned calendars daily to ensure all scheduled transportation and BHT duties are met.
Depending on the shift, close and secure the administrative office at the end of the day and ensure cleanliness and order.
Behavioral Health Technician Coverage
Perform all BHT functions as outlined in the Horizon Recovery BHT job description. Responsibilities include supervision and emotional/physical support of clients, documentation of client behavior and activities, assistance with medication self-administration, vitals, and health & safety screenings, urinalysis testing, and maintaining a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment. The driver must be competent in all BHT duties in the event they need to fill in when there are no transports.
General Expectations
- Obtain any required medications for new intakes.
- Provide excellent customer service to clients, families, and staff.
- Adhere to confidentiality, HIPAA, and Horizon Recovery's Code of Ethics.
- Comply with all agency policies, procedures, and infection-control standards.
- Be flexible and willing to work at any Horizon Recovery location as operational needs dictate.
Job Specifications
- Strong driving record and ability to operate multi-passenger vehicles safely.
- Ability to handle crises and maintain composure during emergencies or behavioral incidents.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with adolescents and colleagues.
- Ability to accurately complete and maintain transportation and clinical documentation.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 6 months of experience in behavioral health or willingness to complete adolescent behavioral health training.
- Valid Arizona driver's license with a clean MVR and proof of insurability.
- 21 years of age or older.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and obtain/maintain a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Physical Demands
Must be able to sit and drive for extended periods; walk, bend, and assist clients in and out of vehicles; lift up to 50 pounds; speak and hear English; and operate company vehicles and standard office equipment.
