City of Temple Terrace

STARTING SALARY RANGE : $55,301 annually

  • Plus $7500 Paramedic incentive. Other salary incentives & holiday compensation

available based on qualifications.

POSITION : Firefighter / Paramedic

POSITION NO : 4.127

DEPT : Fire

This is work performing a variety of medical tasks; providing advanced emergency medical care and Advanced Life Support (ALS) at emergency scenes. Work is physically demanding and performed under hazardous conditions. Employee must maintain combat, firefighting readiness; exercise initiative and independent judgment; and be capable of reacting with speed and composure. Employee works a 24-hour shift, including weekends and holidays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in advanced life support techniques; anatomy and physiology comprehension.
  • Working knowledge of firefighting and rescue methods and techniques; first-aid, CPR, and ACLS techniques; emergency medical techniques, practices, supplies and equipment; firefighting terminology; fire characteristics; standard firefighting; rescue tools and equipment and their uses; search and rescue techniques and equipment.
  • Maintains high level of continuing education, including techniques and equipment innovations and applications in pre-hospital emergency care.
  • Knowledge of the City's geographical area.
  • Ability to operate a variety of firefighting and rescue equipment.
  • Ability to function efficiently under stressful conditions; lift, carry, and maneuver bulky and moderately heavy equipment; perform work requiring considerable physical exertion under hazardous conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing, and with hand signals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; work cooperatively and interact with the public.

    • Training and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possess State of Florida Bureau of Emergency Medical Services EMT-P Certification.

    • Special Requirements

  • Must maintain current CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and State of Florida Paramedic certification.
  • Minimum age, 18 years.
  • Valid Florida driver's license.
  • Must pass a comprehensive physical (including drug screening), psychological examination, and the City's background investigation.
  • Must be tobacco-free for one-year preceding appointment and throughout Fire Department employment.
