The purpose of this job is to provide support and training in implementing behavior management strategies, behavior intervention plans and ABA Teaching Plans within the school setting.

Responsibilities

NOTE: Works under the direction of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst to perform assigned duties.

• Acts in a professional, respectful, and welcoming manner at all times.
• Creates a customer-focused climate and provides quality services and support to schools and other stakeholders.
• Complies with applicable district, state, and federal codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
• Conducts formal training of Hamilton County Department of Education (HCDE) staff.
• Provides ongoing training and technical assistance (modeling and facilitation) to HCDE staff to create and maintain safe crisis prevention policies and procedures.
• Assists with training documentation and recordkeeping.
• Provides assistance/support for district teachers and administrators to facilitate the implementation of Individual Education Programs (IEP), Behavior Intervention Plans, ABA Teaching Plans and Safety Plans.
• Provides physical and verbal assistance to students with various disabilities to maintain a safe environment in order to access the curriculum.
• Completes classroom observations of individual students and interventions in order to assist school teams with data collection to program for students with social/emotional/behavioral difficulties.
• Provides modeling, coaching, and feedback to classroom teachers in implementing Behavior Intervention Plans and ABA Teaching Plans, including classroom activities, ensuring short-term support for specific student(s), and collecting data on student progress toward IEP goals.
• Provides social/emotional/behavior skill intervention and support with individual students for prevention of challenging behavior and teaching of identified functionally equivalent replacement behaviors.
• Collects ongoing behavior data as indicated by BCBA to document and monitor student progress and identify patterns of behavior.
• Communicates through the proper channels to keep supervisor and other appropriate personnel informed of impending problems or events of unusual nature.
• Follows established procedures for ensuring assigned areas are safe.
• Works collaboratively with administration, principals, secretaries, staff, and other stakeholders.
• Attends work and arrives to work on time.
• Maintains confidentiality.
• Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.
• Travels to schools and other district locations as needed to perform essential functions of job.
• Attends and completes necessary training to maintain appropriate crisis intervention training.
• Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, logs, or other documents as required by certifying crisis organization necessary to document staff trainings.
• Completes various forms (including state documentation of Isolation or Restraint), reports, correspondence, student referrals; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
• Maintains RBT certification in accordance with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) guidelines and adheres to the professional and ethical codes of the BACB.
• Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, or other programs; perform basic maintenance of computer systems, such as backing up data or replacing paper, ink, or toner.
• Maintains file system of departmental records; prepares departmental files; sorts/organizes documents to be filed; file documents in designated order; retrieves/replaces files; shreds confidential or obsolete documentation.
• Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, school officials, school staff, special education professionals, students, parents, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Education/Experience:

• Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification or eligibility to sit for the certification exam is required.
• Three (3) years of experience in instructing school personnel in how to safely address inappropriate student behavior preferred;
• Crisis Prevention Intervention certification preferred;
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to students with disabilities preferred.
• Or, any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Due to frequent travel to schools, must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  
  

Skills/Qualifications:

• Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, parents, educators, and community members.
• Ability to instruct school personnel in how to safely address inappropriate student behavior in accordance with established district, state, and federal policies and laws.
• Ability to demonstrate a wide range of strategies to deal with inappropriate student behavior.

Compensation:Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience.Minimum Salary - Grade D
