This is a remote-based position ideally located in the Mobile, AL area but not required. Candidates from other areas of Alabama will also be considered for this position.

Alabama Media Group is searching for a breaking news reporter and producer with sound writing and digital skills to help us reimagine statewide news coverage in Alabama. This person will report on news of local interest and statewide interest using the written word, digital platforms and social media to build an audience for your work.

Candidates should be organized, competitive and detail-oriented with a terrific work ethic. We are looking for someone who can work quickly to produce accurate and clean copy on any number of topics from public safety to business and politics. We want you to be an authoritative voice for the news of the day in Alabama.

After training, candidates should be able to track and understand key metrics to ensure our content is performing as expected. Candidates must also be flexible and be willing to experiment as we seek to attract readers and convert them to subscribers.

To be a good fit for this opportunity, you will have:

• Degree in journalism or communications or equivalent education and related work experience.
• A minimum of 1 year of journalism experience
• The ability to generate clean copy and to present information clearly and quickly
• The ability to plan, work independently and prioritize tasks
• The ability to create content creation for multiple platforms, including planning, scheduling and monitoring content across social platforms.
• An interest in data and audience metrics
• This job requires reliable transportation to meet with sources or cover events
