Who We Are

Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is excited to offer a new opportunity to join our growing team! As a Steam and Electric Plant Engineer, you will support task execution by applying Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM) and Tag-out User’s Manual (TUM) requirements to system maintenance and testing during a depot-level maintenance period. In this role, you will work within the E84 SEP Test Engineering Department throughout a nuclear ship’s maintenance cycle.

What You Will Do

• Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
• Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics).
• Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data.
• Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports.
• Conducts tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

What You Must Have

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and 0 years of relevant professional/exempt experience. Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
• Candidate must have experience working on electrical and/or mechanical engineering projects.
• Candidate must have experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and schematics.
• Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Candidate must have the ability to obtain/maintain a Secret Security Clearance is required.

Bonus Points For Having!

• Fundamentals of engineering license is preferred.
• Experience in coordinating multi-trade projects is a plus.
• Experience in applying the Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM)/Tag-out User’s Manual (TUM) requirements to systems maintenance and testing in a depot level maintenance period is preferred.
• Prior Nuclear Navy or Shipyard experience is desired.

Physical Requirements

Office, industrial or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift.
