Portfolio Financial & Strategic Planning Analyst

Carlsbad, CA (Onsite - 5 Days per Week)

Pay Range : $63.54 - $74.49 per hour

About the Role

We are seeking a strategic, data-driven Portfolio Financial & Strategic Planning Analyst to support cross-functional project and R&D initiatives throughout the full project lifecycle. This highly collaborative role partners with Project Management, Finance, and functional leaders to develop budgets, resource plans, forecasts, and long-term portfolio strategies.

This is an onsite position in Carlsbad, CA (5 days per week).

If you enjoy combining financial acumen, analytics, and process improvement to drive business decisions, this role offers strong visibility and strategic impact.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with Project Managers and functional leaders to build and manage project and portfolio budgets
  • Support Annual Planning, Quarterly Forecasting, and long-range (5-Year) strategic planning
  • Analyze portfolio financial performance including forecasting, variance analysis, and actuals tracking
  • Develop headcount reporting and resource allocation models
  • Use data and analytics to support strategic portfolio decisions
  • Identify financial, capacity, or budget risks and collaborate on resolution strategies
  • Develop and improve portfolio management processes, metrics, and best practices
  • Create executive-level presentations and financial models for senior leadership
  • Contribute to the implementation of portfolio and financial management systems
  • Support additional strategic business initiatives as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of Project, Site, or Operations Management experience

    • OR

    Master's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in :

    • Budgeting and forecasting

  • Finance / accounting principles
  • Data analysis and metrics development
  • Continuous improvement initiatives
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally in a matrixed organization
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with portfolio planning tools such as Planisware PPMS or AI-based portfolio analytics tools
  • Background supporting R&D or technical organizations
  • Experience in medical device, life sciences, or regulated industries
  • Experience acting as an internal consultant supporting business stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex financial data into actionable business strategies
