Job description

The Therapeutic Childcare Specialist works to provide a stable, safe, and healing environment for the children in our care. HHH uses the TCU Trust-Based Relationship Intervention model as the foundation of our program. A two-week paid training program is provided. This role might be a good fit for people interested in direct care, child development, trauma-informed care, mental health, attachment theory and practice, social work, relationship-based therapy, treatment planning, or life skills coaching.

Pay: From $21.00 per hour

Job description:
Since its inception in 1893, Helping Hand Home for Children has been a leader in the field of child welfare and residential treatment. With a commitment to best practices and evidence-based services, our mission is to bring hope and healing to children and families through a continuum of trauma-informed, therapeutic care, including residential, foster, adoption, and support services. We are currently looking for trustworthy individuals to fill our Therapeutic Childcare Specialist role at our 24-hour licensed residential facility. We are specifically looking for candidates that can work overnights and have availability to work weekends.
We require an initial 2.5-week paid orientation training program, with our next hire classes starting November 2nd, 2026.

Although not required, many of our Therapeutic Childcare Specialists have backgrounds in psychology, social work, child development, or related fields.

What you’ll do:

  • Build nurturing relationships with the children using the Trust-Based Relationship Intervention model (TBRI).
  • Assist children with day-to-day needs including implementing schedules, supervising activities, administering medications, and teaching/coaching the children on a variety of life skills.
  • Complete regular documentation and reports accurately and on-time (e.g., medical monitoring, progress notes, etc.)

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 21 years old.
  • Physically able to use authorized crisis intervention techniques.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Flexibility with hours; ability to work weekends, holidays, and occasional overnights as needed.

*For those wishing to work part-time, we require you to work a minimum of 106 hours a month (average of 26.5 hours/week). This requirement is based on the Attachment Theory that we adhere to.
