Your opportunity

DHL Express is seeking for a Senior Director Global Aviation Engine Management based in the United States.

The position will:

• Forecast planned shop visits for all DHL Engine & Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) fleets (7 different Engine fleet types & 5 different APU types), with 4 different Manufacturers (OEMs) (GE, Pratt-WHitney, Rolls-Royce, & Honeywell)- 455 engines & 175 APUs to maintain (110 annual shop visits at 12 different Maintenance, Repair, & Overhaul (MROs), supporting 20 airline partners)
• Develop & maintain spare engine & APU pool that is readily available with the proper certifications for each airline in each region that the airlines operate in/out of
• Build Standardized shop specifications for consistent reliability in conjunction with DHL operators Work with powerplant representatives to ensure proper shop visit management (including a view on shop visit costs vs forecast & budgets) - multiple cAuxiliary Power Unitommercial models to support the fleets based on where they are in the life cycle (Time & Material, Fixed Module Pricing, Pay-per-event, & Pay-per-cycle)
• Develop Mid Term Plan Finance Capital expenditures (MTP CapEx) for all engine shop visits and spares - $383M CapEx spend in 2026 and escalating to $670M by 2029
• Strategically plan each engine program based on its position in the overall life cycle (properly select the type of MRO support agreement & overhaul builds required, including the use of Green Time Engines as appropriate)
• Perform Business Reviews with suppliers to ensure performance is maintained in accordance with the contracts

Duties and Responsibilities:

Engine Strategy

• Forecast planned shop visits for all DHL Engine & APU fleets (7 different Engine fleet types & 5 different APU types)
• Develop & maintain spare engine & APU pool that is readily available with the proper certifications for each airline in each region that the airlines operate
• Develop medium and long term planning for capital expenditures for all engine shop visits and spares
• Strategically plan each engine program based on its position in the overall life cycle (properly select the type of MRO support agreement & overhaul builds required, including the use of Green Time Engines as appropriate)
• Coordinate Engine & APU shop visit forecast & spares plan up to 2 years ahead for all DHL's fleet types
• Ensure Engine & APU Planning embodies the optimal mix of maximizing Life Limited Parts (LLP) life, while maintaining high reliability and optimal shop visit costs

Compliance

• Ensuring that shop visits are complete and documented in accordance with internal procedures and the applicable FAA/EASA/CAA/CAAS/CAAC and national requirements;
• Responsible for meeting regulatory requirements within FAA - EASA Part 145 legislation or equivalent jurisdiction

Cost Management

• Ensure all shop visit activities have representation by suitable DHL managed technicians to ensure quality & cost control is rigorously enforced
• Strategically assess MRO supply options to best meet DHL current & future needs - and in cases where third party options are inadequate, propose or make solutions for DHL to meet the requirement
• Benchmark cost & performance of all DHL Engine / APU MRO's and adapt future input allocations based on actual performance
• Work with powerplant representatives to ensure proper shop visit management (including a view on shop visit costs vs forecast & budgets)
• Leverage fleet volumes across reputed MRO's while at the same time mitigate risks from being dependent on too few suppliers
• Manage the achievement of the specified Engine & APU Maintenance Budgets
• Similarly all modifications added to the Engine/APU work scope should be signed off by Global Aviation prior to embodiment
• Ensure Operators do not "Gold-Plate" work scopes by electively without prior permission from Global Aviation

Standardization

• Build standardized shop specifications for consistent reliability in conjunction with DHL operators
• Set & enforce standards to help manage all shop visit inputs; including use of standard contracts ensuring DHL controls the build specifications & can supply of materials (LLPs) to obtain best cost position and obtains best mix of fixed & variable work scope pricing
• Set KPI's to visualize the success elements pertaining to the Engine & APU planning cycle for each aircraft
• Review operator Maintenance Planning documents with a view to align Engine & APU maintenance intervals with best practice

Performance

• Close co-operation with the Production Planning team to ensure timely completion of Engine / APU Shop visits Technical Dispatch Reliability (TDR) attributable to Engine & APUs

Job Requirements:

Educational Qualifications:

• Aircraft engineering qualification (current)
• University degree in aerospace engineering

Expected (Years of) Experience:

• 15 years of senior management experience in a base maintenance provider or in a major airline managing the heavy maintenance business
• Extensive knowledge of FARs (Federal Aviation Regulation), airworthiness design and substantiation criteria, aircraft and equipment design and operational characteristics, aircraft materials and processes
