Role Overview and Technical Requirements
We are going to need a strong team to support the transition, including the warranty period and ongoing support. I believe there are currently three requirements associated with this effort.
We are in the process of moving away from our existing platform and transitioning the remaining vendors into PingFederate. Some team members already have significant experience in this area and are also supporting the PingFederate work. However, we need an additional resource to help with the onboarding and migration of these vendors.
Position Focus
The job description references a full-stack developer with strong Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience, including at least one developer with experience setting up inbound and outbound SSO. While the role is classified as a full-stack developer position, the primary focus will be broader than traditional application development.
The individual will be expected to work with:
- Infrastructure as Code
- CI/CD pipelines
- AWS infrastructure
- Deployment automation
- Security and identity management
- Infrastructure and policy code
- Java and Python
- AWS/EKS and related cloud technologies
- SSO and authentication
- PingFederate
The most important requirement is that the candidate understands identity management and security. Direct PingFederate experience would be beneficial, but it is not necessarily a requirement if the candidate has strong experience in identity management, security, DevOps, or a similar technology.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for someone who is truly comfortable working across the development and infrastructure lifecycle. Ideally, this person can build the application, create the infrastructure, develop the pipelines, and deploy the solution into production without relying heavily on another team.
One of the challenges we have seen with candidates who identify as full-stack developers is that they may have extensive development experience but limited exposure to deployment and production infrastructure. For this position, we need someone who understands how their code gets into production and is comfortable managing that process.
For example, if someone has strong Java, Python, and AWS experience but has not worked directly with PingFederate, that could still be a very strong candidate. We can teach them the specific tool. It is much more difficult to teach someone development, infrastructure, and policy-as-code fundamentals if their only experience is with the tool itself.
Candidates with previous experience in security, identity management, DevOps, or similar environments would be particularly attractive.
Experience Level
Ideally, we are looking for approximately five or more years of relevant experience. The position is aligned with a Level 3 / intermediate-level resource, generally representing approximately 5 7 years of experience, although we can be flexible for the right candidate.
Strong communication skills, initiative, and self-motivation are very important. We need someone who will be proactive, take ownership, and be comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment.
Vanguard Experience
Previous Vanguard experience would be a significant advantage. If we find someone who has already worked successfully within the Vanguard environment and has strong references from previous leaders, I would consider that candidate even if they do not have direct PingFederate experience.
Given the relatively short contract duration, someone who already understands the Vanguard environment could become productive much faster than someone who has all of the technical keywords but requires significant ramp-up time.
Interview Process
The initial interview process is expected to consist of one primary interview, with an additional discussion if necessary. Communication skills and the candidate's ability to explain their technical experience will be important considerations.
Work Location
The position is expected to be based in Malvern, PA or Plano, TX. We should confirm whether the role is fully onsite or follows a hybrid model, as the expectations may vary by team.
Key Takeaway
The ideal candidate is a strong full-stack/cloud developer who also understands infrastructure, CI/CD, security, and identity management. Direct PingFederate experience is preferred but not mandatory.
The priority is finding someone who can independently build, deploy, and support solutions across the development and infrastructure lifecycle rather than someone who only specializes in the PingFederate tool itself.
