Position: Technical Business Analyst

Contract Length: 12 Months

Location: San Diego, CA

Rate: $60/hr on W2

Responsibilities:

Seeking a Technical Business Analyst to help support an expanding portfolio of data, reporting, and analytics initiatives. This position works closely with the Senior Data Product Manager to assist with sprint execution, business request intake, and troubleshooting efforts related to data and reporting solutions. The role is intended to support day-to-day operational responsibilities, allowing leadership to focus on broader product strategy.

This is not a Scrum Master position. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical curiosity, hands-on SQL experience, an understanding of data lineage, and an interest in learning how systems, reports, and data sources connect. Success in this role also requires strong collaboration, organization, and communication skills.

Why This Position Exists

The team is currently managing a large volume of data and analytics initiatives. Existing responsibilities include:

• Gathering business requirements
• Managing and maintaining the backlog
• Creating and prioritizing user stories
• Supporting sprint planning and agile ceremonies
• Providing project and status updates
• Troubleshooting reporting and data issues
• Communicating with stakeholders
• Administrative and agile delivery activities are currently taking significant time away from strategic product initiatives. This role will help absorb those responsibilities and improve team capacity.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner closely with the Senior Data Product Manager to align on business priorities and requirements
• Support sprint execution and backlog management activities
• Participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning, retrospectives, and status reporting
• Research and resolve issues involving data, reporting, and dashboard solutions
• Review, assess, and triage incoming business requests
• Coordinate with developers and technical resources to support delivery efforts
• Document and understand data movement, system integrations, and data flows

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong proficiency with SQL
• Familiarity with data lineage concepts
• Experience working in data, analytics, or reporting-focused environments
• Ability to independently investigate and troubleshoot reporting and data-related issues
• Prior experience as a Technical Business Analyst is preferred
• Comfortable collaborating with both business stakeholders and technical teams
