The Mechanical Engineer plays a vital role in designing, developing, and optimizing structural enclosures, busbar configurations, and mechanical components for medium-voltage pad-mounted enclosures and overhead equipment. This position involves collaborating with various departments to ensure that all mechanical and structural systems operate efficiently, safely, and integrate seamlessly with electrical systems in compliance with industry standards.
The role contributes to enhancing the production environment by utilizing technical expertise, leadership, and problem-solving skills. The mechanical engineer works closely with the cross-functional team to develop systems from conceptual stages through to factory implementation. The ideal candidate must be proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines and production goals. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills are critical for success in this role.
Compensation:
$88,000 - $100,000 yearly
Responsibilities:
Review customer technical specifications and electrical one/three-line diagrams to generate detailed project layout submittals.
Present technical project solutions to the customer and internal stakeholders, and obtain seismic certification with third-party engineers when required.
Direct and coordinate structural fabrication, mechanical assembly, product testing, and installation activities to ensure compliance with design specifications, structural codes, and customer requirements.
Standardize projects, evaluate internal engineering change requests, and assist with product specification development.
Utilize SolidWorks to create and modify 3D CAD models and fabrication drawings, releasing the final designs in SolidWorks PDM.
Perform structural simulations using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate structural integrity under various conditions.
Prepare specifications and detailed Manufacturing Bills of Materials (MBOM) for production.
Provide timely engineering and troubleshooting support to the factory floor for manufacturing issues, component defects, and new product launches.
Collaborate with project managers, operations teams, and other departments to ensure smooth integration of electrical systems into manufacturing operations
Qualifications:
Required Skills/Abilities:
Proven ability to work effectively both independently and within cross-functional teams, keeping stakeholders proactively informed using clear, positive communication.
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards across all mechanical and electrical system layouts
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory requirements and implement necessary engineering changes.
Provide technical expertise and training to junior engineers and cross-functional team members on electrical systems and best practices.
Strong exposure to and knowledge of, including but not limited to, National Electrical Code (NEC), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Utility Electric Service Requirements (ESR), ANSI C37, IEEE C37.20.2, and UL/NEMA standards.
Ability to promptly respond to and resolve customer technical issues, while actively seeking feedback to improve service.
Comprehensive understanding of design for manufacturing (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and cost optimization principles.
Excellent troubleshooting, root-cause failure analysis, and analytical skills.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
5+ years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in a power distribution, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
Must be proficient in SolidWorks
SolidWorks PDM experience is a plus.
Strong foundational understanding of mechanical design principles, raw materials, and sheet metal manufacturing processes.
