A Systems Engineer II is a seasoned professional who joins a fast-moving team responsible for deploying, operating, and scaling massive always-on distributed systems serving production workloads for AWS customers.
This role goes far beyond basic system administration—it's instrumental in building and maintaining highly secure, reliable, and available systems that function at massive scale.
Key job responsibilities
-Troubleshoot, reproduce, and solve challenging operational issues in complex enterprise environments running fleets of server instances across multiple AWS regions
-Develop utilities and tools for internal use that enable safe, high-speed operations at wide scale
-Draft scripts that facilitate automation and system self-repair, not just detection and alarming
-Demonstrate cross-team impact with lasting influence across multiple teams, geographies, or entire business units
-Determine root causes for issues and develop automated solutions to prevent recurrence
About the team
The AWS Outposts team builds and delivers fully managed infrastructure that extends AWS services, APIs, and tools to customer data centers and on-premises facilities. They provide physical rack-mounted hardware that runs native AWS services locally while maintaining seamless connectivity to the cloud.
This enables customers to meet low-latency requirements, address data residency needs, and run workloads on-premises using the same AWS experience they use in the cloud. The team handles deployment, maintenance, and updates, allowing organizations to build hybrid architectures with consistent tooling across environments.
