Job Title: Construction Laborer

Job Description

This role supports a new commercial construction jobsite as a hands-on laborer through the end of November, with strong potential for permanent employment based on performance. You will assist with a variety of tasks on commercial new construction projects, contributing to carpentry, general construction, and site support activities while working closely with a small, collaborative crew.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with general construction tasks on commercial new construction projects, including schools, manufacturing buildings, warehouses, new retail construction, hospital and medical buildings, and apartment complexes.
  • Support carpentry and finish work under the direction of experienced tradespeople, including measuring, cutting, and handling materials as needed.
  • Operate or assist with forklift operations if qualified, including moving materials and equipment safely around the jobsite.
  • Load, unload, and organize construction materials, tools, and equipment to keep the jobsite clean, orderly, and efficient.
  • Follow directions from site supervisors and crew leads to complete daily tasks and meet project timelines.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area by removing debris, sweeping, and organizing tools and materials throughout the shift.
  • Use basic hand and power tools safely and correctly as required for construction and carpentry tasks.
  • Follow all site safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment and adhering to dress code requirements.
  • Assist other crew members as needed to support teamwork and ensure project milestones are met.
  • Adapt to changing tasks and priorities as the project progresses, demonstrating reliability and a strong work ethic.

Essential Skills

  • Previous construction experience, preferably in commercial construction environments.
  • Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods, including lifting, carrying, bending, and standing throughout the workday.
  • Familiarity with basic carpentry tasks and general construction practices.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a small team.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to jobsite safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with finish carpentry is a plus.
  • Forklift experience or ability to learn forklift operation is highly desirable.
  • commercial projects such as schools, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, retail, medical buildings, or apartment complexes is beneficial.
  • Willingness to work on different types of commercial new construction projects as needed.

Work Environment

The culture is family oriented with a strong focus on teamwork and helping others on site. The work is hands-on and physically active, performed in typical construction environments that may involve varying weather conditions and outdoor or partially enclosed spaces. A professional construction dress code applies: no shorts are allowed, and work boots are required at all times on the jobsite, along with any other necessary safety gear.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sioux Falls, SD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
