Job description

Position Description

Our Oakland office is currently seeking a BIM Specialist with a passion for structures, construction, and learning. This position is responsible for delivering BIM projects to meet client requirements, project goals, and Degenkolb quality standards. We provide focused technical development within a highly supportive team environment.

Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone with strong Revit production skills and experience developing structural models and construction documents. The ideal candidate understands how building structures and construction documents come together, communicates well with project teams, and can manage assigned BIM and drafting responsibilities independently. This person should be resourceful, detail-oriented, willing to ask questions, and comfortable learning new BIM tools and workflows. A passion for continued professional growth is highly valued.

Who We Are

Founded in 1940 and headquartered in San Francisco, Degenkolb Engineers helps make complex, high-stakes projects real. We bring deep technical expertise, disciplined creativity, and a practical understanding of construction to every challenge; building strong relationships early, making complexity easier to navigate, and keeping the success of projects central to our work.

Our teams deliver customized structural solutions across healthcare, education, science and technology, forensics, construction engineering, federal buildings, and other complex markets. Whether a project calls for navigating stringent codes, balancing budget and schedule, solving an unusual technical problem, or creating a landmark structural system, we connect the right people and ideas to develop solutions that serve our clients and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage 3D models in Revit to support design development and construction documents for a variety of projects.
  • Leverage knowledge of typical building structure and construction to develop high-quality building models and construction documents.
  • Manage construction documents from initial creation through construction administration.
  • Maintain efficient and well-organized BIM/CAD project folders.
  • Actively engage in resolving BIM/CAD planning and coordination issues to meet schedule and budget goals.
  • Communicate regularly with project teams regarding project needs.
  • Provide technical support for Revit and AutoCAD to engineers and other BIM staff.
  • Identify, comprehend, and follow the BIM/CAD standards applicable to assigned projects when drafting and modeling.
  • Regularly review project modeling and drafting work to ensure accuracy and adherence to project standards.
  • Assist in updating Degenkolb BIM/CAD User Guidelines.
  • Participate in the Degenkolb Technical Conference.

Minimum Requirements

  • 3+ years of Autodesk Revit and related BIM software experience in structural engineering, architecture, construction, or a related building-industry environment.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Forma (Autodesk Construction Cloud).
  • Experience using Revit add-ins and third-party software to improve modeling and documentation workflows.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD in a structural engineering or architectural setting. Construction experience a plus.
  • Experience managing BIM and construction document production with project teams through multiple project phases.
  • Ability to work efficiently in Revit and identify opportunities to improve modeling productivity.
  • Ability to meet challenging project schedule deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for interaction with staff and clients in different geographic locations.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with BIM model coordination software such as Navisworks or Revizto.
  • Familiarity with creating and managing parametric Revit families.
  • Experience developing automation tools using Dynamo or pyRevit.
  • Experience modeling large or complex building projects in healthcare, education, civic, science and technology, or industrial/manufacturing.
  • Experience with or interest in leveraging AI to increase workflow efficiency.
  • Associate’s degree or Revit Structure Certified Professional credential.

Compensation & Benefits

The annual salary range for this position across our offices generally falls between $80,000 and $89,000. This range is a good-faith estimate provided pursuant to applicable pay transparency laws.
