Class A Driver
Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana is the state's largest hunger relief organization and one of the leading food banks in the Feeding America Network. In addition to vital hunger relief programs in our 21-county service area, we also operate Fresh Connect Central, a regional produce cooperative for Feeding America, serve as a contract reclamation site for Kroger Central Division, and are a staging site for FEMA disaster response.
The purpose of the Class A Driver is to safely and efficiently operate commercial motor vehicle in urban, suburban, and rural areas in the state of Indiana to transport freight. This position is required to load and unload food products to charitable feeding partners and programs. All responsibilities and duties will further Gleaners' mission to be a leader in the fight against hunger.

Essential functions of the driver - Class A include safely and efficiently operating commercial motor vehicle in urban, suburban, and rural areas to transport freight. This position is an over the road regional position with the possibility of delivering to a wide variety of locations in the U.S. The position may require loading and unloading food products to charitable feeding partners and programs. All responsibilities and duties will further Gleaners' mission to be a leader in the fight against hunger.
Education and/or experience of driver - Class A includes delivering food donations to charitable feeding programs, loading orders on trailer for delivery when necessary (must be able to operate forklift and pallet jacks), making direct deliveries of product to distribution sites and agencies as scheduled, picking up food donations from donor companies, unloading donations brought back and making sure receipts are with product, completing return form for all returned product, providing superior customer service internally and externally, complying with DOT, food safety, company policies, federal, state and local regulations, operating 53' trailers or straight trucks with refrigeration units, safe operation of equipment and on-time deliveries/pick-ups, maintaining cleanliness of trucks, completing all necessary forms and paperwork, reliability & dependability is especially important for this position, and performing all other duties as assigned.
Other relevant skills and abilities of the driver - Class A include excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, ability to read, write, and understand instructions, ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with all staff members, agencies, volunteers, and donors, ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds, ability to perform basic math functions, count accurately, and maintain accurate records, ability to operate lift gate safely, valid driver's license/clean driving record/3 years of driving experience/must be insurable by company vehicle insurance provider.
