Lead Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Project Lead to oversee the technical execution of complex, custom-engineered equipment and systems from concept through commissioning. This role provides leadership and coordination for multidisciplinary engineering teams, including mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with customer requirements, applicable standards, and quality expectations. Serving as the primary engineering lead for assigned projects, this position partners closely with Project Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and customers to drive technical decisions, manage engineering deliverables, mitigate risks, and support successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate the work of multidisciplinary engineering teams, including mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering personnel.
  • Assign, prioritize, and monitor engineering activities to ensure project milestones and deliverables are achieved.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support throughout the engineering lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership to plan resources, balance workloads, and resolve technical challenges.
  • Contribute feedback regarding team performance, development opportunities, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Project Engineering

  • Serve as the primary engineering representative for assigned capital equipment or industrial system projects.
  • Translate customer requirements into practical engineering solutions while ensuring compliance with contractual and technical specifications.
  • Develop and review engineering documentation, system designs, functional specifications, process documentation, and technical drawings.
  • Coordinate engineering deliverables across all disciplines to maintain project schedules and design consistency.
  • Lead technical design reviews and facilitate cross-functional collaboration throughout project execution.
  • Identify technical risks, propose mitigation strategies, and communicate impacts to project stakeholders.

Technical Oversight

  • Review and approve engineering documentation to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Maintain system integration documentation and oversee technical interfaces between project components.
  • Support validation, verification, testing, and commissioning activities to confirm system performance.
  • Develop or review testing procedures and participate in troubleshooting during equipment startup and acceptance testing.
  • Resolve technical issues by collaborating with internal teams, suppliers, and customers.

Customer & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as the primary technical contact for customers throughout project execution.
  • Communicate project status, design updates, and technical decisions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support Project Managers by identifying changes in project scope and evaluating potential impacts on cost and schedule.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, Procurement, and Service teams to ensure successful project delivery.

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in the development of engineering standards, best practices, and process improvements.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Ensure engineering activities comply with organizational safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 6-10 years of engineering experience supporting custom equipment, industrial systems, automation, manufacturing, or capital projects.
  • Previous experience leading or coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple technical projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Experience developing and reviewing engineering documentation, specifications, and technical deliverables.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency with standard engineering software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience supporting equipment validation, testing, commissioning, or system integration is preferred.
