Job description
Job Title: CMM Programmer (Zeiss Calypso)
Job Description

This role focuses on developing, validating, and maintaining CMM inspection programs to support metrology activities in a sophisticated manufacturing environment. The CMM Programmer ensures accurate, repeatable inspection processes for complex parts, collaborates closely with Engineering and Production to resolve measurement issues, and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Write, validate, and revise CMM programs based on engineering drawings and CAD models.
  • Develop and maintain CMM programs specifically using Zeiss Calypso or similar Calypso-based programming environments.
  • Interpret blueprints and apply GD&T principles to create accurate and robust inspection routines.
  • Support metrology-related projects and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inspection capability and efficiency.
  • Partner with Engineering and Production teams to troubleshoot measurement issues and ensure part conformity for complex components.
  • Troubleshoot CMM and related equipment issues and coordinate resolution with Maintenance and OEM technical support.
  • Collaborate with other CMM programmers to implement, standardize, and continuously improve best practices for inspection programming.
  • Provide production support to maintain inspection throughput, quality, and adherence to delivery schedules.
  • Use manual inspection tools such as micrometers, bore gages, thread gages, profilometers, and pin gages to verify measurements and validate CMM results.
  • Support the setup and programming of manufacturing processes for complex parts across aerospace, defense, automotive, and medical applications.
  • Program and support multiple part numbers per day in a dynamic environment, rather than focusing on a single long-term, set-and-forget process.
  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced facility while maintaining organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Essential Skills
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience programming CMMs in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with Zeiss Calypso or strong familiarity with Calypso-based CMM programming.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and apply working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Proficiency with manual inspection tools including micrometers, bore gages, thread gages, profilometers, and pin gages.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and high attention to detail when working with complex parts and tight tolerances.
  • Solid math skills to support accurate measurement, analysis, and programming.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to stay organized and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with programming and setting up manufacturing processes for complex parts.
  • Experience programming multiple parts per day in a dynamic, high-mix environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar CAD software to support interpretation of models and creation of inspection routines.
  • Exposure to mills, lathes, and 5-axis machining environments, enabling better understanding of manufacturing processes and part features.
  • Experience working with complex components for aerospace, defense, automotive, or medical industries.
  • Interest in participating in continuous improvement and automation initiatives within a modern CNC facility.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineering teams that have long tenure and deep process knowledge.
Work Environment

You will work in a very clean and sophisticated CNC facility equipped with over 100 different pieces of manufacturing machinery and an expanding level of plant automation. The environment supports complex manufacturing for aerospace, defense, automotive, and medical industries, with strong internal engineering expertise and long average tenure across roles. The typical schedule, when fully operational, consists of 5 ten-hour shifts per week, providing guaranteed 10 hours of overtime weekly, with overtime opportunities also available for engineering-related roles. The facility offers attractive on-site amenities, including a free gym and a free golf simulator in the lunchroom, as well as optional lunchtime activities such as bible study. The culture emphasizes strong internal benefits, stability, and long-term employee growth within a modern, technology-driven manufacturing setting.
