Reporting directly to senior operations management, you will be at the forefront of maintaining a well-functioning, compliant, and performance-driven fleet.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise maintenance and repair activities for tugboats and associated marine equipment.
  • Coordinate with vessel crews, shipyards, and vendors to execute both planned and unplanned maintenance tasks.
  • Plan, schedule, and oversee drydock operations, including budget management, execution, and post-drydock follow-up.
  • Ensure vessel operations meet USCG, ABS, and internal safety and environmental standards.
  • Monitor vessel performance to proactively identify and resolve mechanical or operational issues.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, review invoices, and track repair costs to stay within financial targets.
  • Supervise and support engineering personnel and vessel engineers as necessary.
  • Maintain meticulous records of inspections, maintenance, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Facilitate procurement of parts, materials, and third-party services to support vessel maintenance.
  • Collaborate closely with operations teams to minimize vessel downtime and maximize operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Prior experience as a Port Engineer, Assistant Port Engineer, Chief Engineer, or similar leadership role in marine operations.
  • Strong background in tugboats, workboats, or small vessel operations.
  • Proven experience working with shipyards and marine vendors.
  • Familiarity with USCG regulations, ABS standards, and marine compliance requirements.
  • Hands-on mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coordination abilities.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Budget management experience coupled with a cost-conscious approach.
  • Ability to solve problems and make effective decisions under pressure.
  • Willingness and ability to travel locally to vessels, shipyards, and port facilities.
  • Flexible schedule to support vessel operations, including after-hours support as needed.
  • TWIC card (or the ability to obtain one) is required.
