St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport has more than 3,200 associates. It includes a 473-bed community teaching hospital, a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group, and special needs services for adults and children. St. Vincent's is the first hospital in Fairfield County to be integrated into the Hartford HealthCare network, and is the system's second-largest hospital.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Manager Facilities, the Supervisor of Facilities ensures efficient daily operations of the maintenance department, hospital and ambulatory departments' compliance of regulatory standards and requirements which includes environment of care and life safety standards. Using exceptional organizational skills, proficient in current codes and regulations, keen knowledge of the hospital equipment and systems, the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written (email), able to multi-task many high priority tasks simultaneously, and competent to work independently.

  1. Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Facilities Department; provide support to the staff, maintains staff calendar for the department and repair/project coverage, coordinates with clinical staff on repairs and project work in patient care areas. Knowledgeable and skilled to work in all trade areas as licenses allow.
  2. Manages the Building Management System (BMS) assignments for work order requests and scheduled work, and audits mechanics' work assignments for efficiency, effectiveness and quality of work. Works with the BMS relating to daily tasks and long-term planning.
  3. Responds to inquiries from the main hospital and offsite locations to provide follow-up and customer service for complex inquiries, concerns, and complaints regarding services provided.
  4. Oversee the Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) and Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) policies and procedures for repairs and projects, coordinates the work and the staffing during in-house projects and keeps records for regulatory compliance. (ie: Hot Work Permits, Fire Alarm System Deactivation Log, Fire Watch). Assists with Environment of Care; for adherence to regulatory completion percentages of assigned work orders, responds to trends in deficiencies and attends Rounding as needed.
  5. Leads department Huddles to inform current conditions within the hospital, discuss Key Performance Indicators, announce upcoming events and education opportunities, and to respond to any immediate needs or concerns.
  6. Manage emergency preparedness protocols to maintain safe conditions during adverse weather, including coordinating timely snow and ice removal
  7. Maintains all facilities policies, procedures and plans.
  8. Works with the Manager to effectively support the needs of the Facilities department and assumes responsibility when the Manager is unavailable. Available during off hours for emergency "Call In". Performs additional duties as required/ assigned/ needed.

Qualifications

  • High School/vocational school or equivalent required.
  • 8 years' experience in; Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, HVAC and/or Power Plant Operations (OE2) required.
  • Minimum of two years Supervisory experience and OSHA training required.
  • Knowledge of Building Management Systems and Work Order databases required.
  • P-1, E-6, D-1 or S-1 State of Connecticut license required.
  • Proficiency in English required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook and other systems preferred.
  • Project Management experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Understanding and knowledge of general maintenance, HVAC, Basic electrical, Landscaping, Plumbing, and general carpentry. Requires hands-on experience in one of the above-mentioned trades.
  • Must have a general knowledge of the environment of care and life safety requirements for hospitals and behavioral health facilities.
  • Must be able to work well with others, manage a medium sized crew, take direction and follow through on assigned tasks.
