Designs, develops, and tests computer hardware, including computer systems, circuit boards, computer chips, keyboards, routers, and printers. Supervises the manufacturing, production, and installation of the parts. Designs and oversees the production of computer hardware equipment. Tests and re-tests parts to ensure they work properly. Identifies and isolates defects. Designs and develops the software systems that control computers. Designs and tests circuits and other electronic components. Tests work and refine processes. Integrates components into the final design. Evaluates the effectiveness of the design and change if necessary. Generates specifications for parts. Controls the efficiency of processes. Builds, tests and modifies product prototypes. Analyzes information and recommend appropriate hardware to users. Designs support peripherals, including central processing units (CPUs), support logic, microprocessors, custom integrated circuits, and printers and disk drives. Specifies power supply requirements and configuration. Retrieves data for analysis of system capabilities. Experience with Hardware engineering software (Altium Designer, Orcad, Cadence Allegro) and Electronics tools (soldering irons, magnifiers)

Background / Need
This High-Speed Digital Hardware Engineer will support the development and testing of electrical subsystems and PCBAs for Laser Communications intended for space. The role will involve supporting and eventually leading the integration and test of builds composed of high-speed digital / analog and electro-optic circuitry, influencing digital architecture, and performing electrical design and analysis for future generations of Laser Communications systems.
A successful candidate will be experienced in the areas of high-speed digital design for high-reliability environments, as well as test and debug of complex electrical subsystems.

Responsibilities :
- Support and lead integration and test of builds for spaceflight electrical subsystems supporting Laser Communications
- Debug of electrical issues for first-of-its-kind hardware, in tandem with an experienced team of HDL, firmware, mechanical, and optical engineers
- Write integration and test procedures
- Support future architectures and high-speed digital hardware design work
Required Skills :
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar
- 5+ years of experience as an electrical engineer responsible for design and test of complex mixed-signal hardware, with specific experience as follows :
- 5+ years of experience with the part selection, schematic capture, layout, and test of complex mixed-signal boards targeting SoCs or FPGAs with all relevant clocking, power, and high-rate interfaces
- 5+ years of experience working on cross-disciplinary teams with Mechanical and RF engineers
- 5+ years of experience with typical lab equipment including high-speed oscilloscopes, bench power supplies, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators
- 3+ years of experience with one or more scripting / embedded programming languages such as Python, C / C++, or Bash
- 1+ years of experience working in desktop and embedded Linux
Preferred Skills :
- M.S. In Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar
- Experience designing and testing high-fidelity hardware for space
- Experience with high-reliability design for aerospace and military applications
- Understanding of RF or optical communication systems and digital signal processing, and ability to translate these to hardware requirements for sampling data converters, data processing, and circuit performance
- Experience with AMD FPGAs, MPSoCs, or ACAPs, with an emphasis on Versal
- Experience with board-level design and test of modern SERDES
- Experience with board-level design and test of modern RF ADCs and DACs
- Experience with board-level design and test of modern DDR memory
- Experience with Mentor Graphics Xpedition
- Interim clearance is sufficient for start but an active security clearance is highly preferred
- Role is 100% onsite due to the nature of the work. During design phases, there may be opportunity for some remote work, but not a long term consistent remote schedule.
- Interview process : initial phone / zoom interview and then a in person panel interview for candidates that are local. They will do zoom interviews for any relocation candidates but local candidates should plan to be onsite.
