Job description
Amazon Operations Technology Networking owns the design, planning, delivery, and support of the global infrastructure for Amazon fulfillment, transportation, and grocery sites. Our network solutions are used by hundreds of thousands of associates and play a critical role in billions of shipments per year. In other words, we are the people who keep Amazon's warehouses and grocery digitally connected and operating efficiently.

You'll join a diverse team of network, system, and software engineers to collaborate with people across Fulfillment Technology & Robotics to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. You'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

The team is seeking a Network Development Manager to lead a team of engineers building and provisioning our sites. This role is crucial in transforming innovative designs into production-ready implementations that support an ecosystem of robotics, industrial IoT, sensors, drones, and mobile devices. We own the end-to-end process of delivering these networks, from managing vendor relationships and telecom connectivity between sites and AWS, to implementing and scaling new network architectures. The ideal candidate will drive the seamless integration of state-of-the-art networking technologies, ensuring our facilities remain at the forefront of digital connectivity and operational efficiency.

Key job responsibilities
- Set technical vision and strategy for network provisioning team. Guide architectural decisions and establish technical standards. Champion integration of AI and machine learning to enhance network automation and operations.

- Drive operational excellence through automated network solutions. Establish metrics and KPIs to measure service health and performance. Ensure timely delivery of network development projects. Scale development practices to support rapid platform expansion across global operations.

- Partner with internal teams and external vendors to drive innovation in network automation and tooling. Work with vendors to influence product roadmaps and integrate emerging technologies. Champion adoption of AI-powered tools and generative AI applications for network operations. Foster a culture of experimentation and innovation through strategic partnerships. Identify and evaluate new technologies that can benefit Amazon's network infrastructure.

- Establish engineering metrics to measure service availability, deployment velocity, and system reliability. Drive quality through code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration. Measure deployment success rates, defect rates, network capacity utilization, and cycle times for continuous improvement.

- Conduct regular technical roadmap reviews and align operational priorities with organizational objectives. Provide mentoring in network engineering, automation development, and software engineering practices. Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and continuous learning.

A day in the life
You'll lead a team of engineers supporting Amazon's global site build network deployments. Your stakeholders include Operations Technology leadership, partner engineering teams, and external vendors. Day-to-day, you'll balance strategic planning with hands-on problem solving — unblocking your team, aligning priorities across organizations, and ensuring builds stay on track. Your customers are the operations sites launching worldwide that depend on network connectivity from day one. This role suits someone who thrives leading technical teams through ambiguity at scale.

Amazon offers a full range of benefits that support you and eligible family members, including domestic partners and their children. Benefits can vary by location, the number of regularly scheduled hours you work, length of employment, and job status such as seasonal or temporary employment.

The benefits that generally apply to regular, full-time employees include:
- Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage
- Maternity and Parental Leave Options
- Paid Time Off (PTO)
- 401(k) Plan

If you are not sure that every qualification on the list above describes you exactly, we'd still love to hear from you!

At Amazon, we value people with unique backgrounds, experiences, and skillsets. If you’re passionate about this role and want to make an impact on a global scale, please apply!

About the team
Network Deployment Services (NDS) owns network provisioning, lifecycle management, ISP support for Amazon's global fulfillment, transportation, and grocery sites worldwide. We evaluate customer demand and deploy scalable network solutions — from new site builds and infrastructure refreshes to circuit deployments that keep our facilities connected. Our team plays a critical role in enabling Amazon's global operations network to grow and operate reliably at scale.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of managing teams experience
- 8+ years of technology role experience
- Experience with network operations either as a manager or individual contributor
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience representing your team or technical area to senior management
- Experience in building and developing a high performance team
- CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Cisco/CCNA, Linux (Redhat), Microsoft hardware (installation), AWS, or other industry relevant certifications
- Experience working with technical and product stakeholders to define requirements, prioritize features, and influence product roadmaps
- Proficiency with AI-powered network automation and coding
