Job description

The opportunity

Mipac is expanding into the US and has recently opened a new office in Tucson, Arizona. This is an exciting opportunity for a Control Systems Engineer to join the team early in its growth and play a key role in shaping Mipac’s local and global project delivery.

As a Control Systems Engineer at Mipac, you’ll gain exposure to large‑scale, technically complex projects, working across mining, mineral processing, and heavy industry clients worldwide. You will have opportunities to travel to international project locations, including potentially Africa, Peru, and Canada, and to collaborate with experienced engineers across Mipac’s global offices.

This role offers the chance to accelerate your technical development through hands‑on involvement with multiple control platforms, diverse project scopes, and real‑world commissioning environments, all while being supported by a collaborative, technically strong team.

Your responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of control systems for mining, mineral processing, and related projects, in line with engineering standards and client requirements.
  • Apply developing technical knowledge and problem‑solving skills to deliver control system solutions for moderately complex engineering tasks, with guidance from senior engineers where required.
  • Contribute to control system deliverables within project teams, including design documentation, specifications, procedures, and reports.
  • Participate in technical reviews and incorporate feedback from senior engineers to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders to support effective communication and project outcomes.
  • Participate in site visits and commissioning activities to support installation, testing, and operational readiness of control systems.
  • Apply company, client, and industry standards and procedures, building professional judgement through mentored experience.

What do we need from you?

  • A willingness and readiness to travel nationally and internationally, supporting projects across a variety of operating environments. Travel duration will be project‑dependent.
  • Experience working in a project‑based engineering environment.
  • Hands‑on experience with PLC programming and exposure to industrial control system architectures.
  • Experience with SCADA configuration and development (e.g. Citect, FactoryTalk View, Wonderware, Cimplicity).
  • Experience generating and interpreting engineering documentation such as functional descriptions, alarm registers, cause & effect matrices, commissioning plans, and inspection and test plans.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with clients and project teams.
  • Participation in site work and commissioning activities, with guidance from senior engineers where required.
  • Ideally, experience in mining, mineral processing, heavy industry, or similar operational environments.

What we can offer you

At Mipac, we pride ourselves on offering an exciting and challenging place to grow your career in an environment that allows for creativity, flexibility, and support. We believe you’ll love working with us if you:

  • Thrive collaborating with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Welcome challenges with a can-do attitude and solution focus
  • Value excellence and hard work
  • Want to work on some of the world’s biggest projects
  • Are a keen learner interested in being exposed to different technologies, sites, vendors, and/or programming languages
  • Value leaders who are approachable, supportive, and roll up their sleeves when needed

We see our people as our most valuable asset and are committed to ensuring our staff feel safe, secure, and comfortable, are given continuous learning opportunities, and feel valued. That’s why we offer:

  • Competitive salaries with an annual bonus payment, including a site remuneration policy
  • An opportunity to work on interesting and diverse projects nationally and internationally
  • Continuous learning and professional development opportunities, including free access to LinkedIn Learning
  • Support to gain further accreditation and certifications through our Study Support policy
  • 401k Savings plan from commencement
