A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ELIGIBILITY SPECIALIST / CUSTOMER SERVICE REP

As a billing and insurance specialist, you play an essential role in processing patient referrals, eligibility verifications, and insurance verifications as well as negotiating contracts. Working alongside the billing manager, you assist with researching patient benefits and authorizations. Using our HomeCare HomeBase software, you gather referral information and process all pending referrals as well as notify the CM or designee when a referral is ready to be processed. You verify all client referrals for eligibility from their proper payer and enter the information into HomeCare HomeBase.

In addition, you complete payer and insurance verification coordination notes, including all relevant billing and eligibility data. You also negotiate rates and terms of the contract with payer sources. When contacting the correct branch, you communicate the terms of the contract, authorizations, and any special requirements as well as conduct follow-up on pending clients and non-admits. You ensure that all client information is entered correctly and processed in a timely manner. When approval is needed for a referral, you promptly contact management and perform the necessary data entry.

You review all customer service coordination notes, billing notes, and administrative tasks as well as monitor payer changes for clients as needed. Other related billing functions you conduct include collections and verifying Medicare eligibilities for any episodes that are not billed. You are sometimes requested to attend training activities, maintain files for customer service and intake, and serve as a backup receptionist when staffing is low. Having a job that uses your exceptional data entry skills to keep the operations of our office running smoothly brings you great satisfaction, which is why you thrive in this position in home health care!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN ELIGIBILITY SPECIALIST / CUSTOMER SERVICE REP

  • 1+ years of experience working with insurance companies, including insurance verifications, authorizations, and contract negotiations

  • Knowledge about ICD-10 and HCPCS/CPT coding
  • Proficiency with data entry and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Strong computer skills, including the use of internet-based patient software
  • Excellent customer service skills

Do you have excellent verbal and written communication skills? Can you balance multiple tasks while demonstrating good time management? Do you have a keen eye for detail? Are you an exceptional problem solver with strong analytical thinking skills? Can you handle confidential information with discretion? If so, you might just be perfect for this billing and insurance position using your data entry skills!
