Hill International is seeking a BIM Modeler in Berkeley, California
Berkeley Lab is seeking an experienced Building Information Modeling (BIM) Modeler / Revit Drafter to support the development, integration, and maintenance of Autodesk Revit-based facility models for complex technical and research environments. This role will support the Advanced Light Source Upgrade project and related facility modeling needs by helping
consolidate existing design information, field-verified conditions, legacy documentation, and consultant-provided models into a coordinated BIM environment.
This is an opportunity to support a highly technical project involving complex building systems, accelerator infrastructure, research facilities, and integrated engineering workflows. The selected candidate will work closely with engineers, designers, project stakeholders, and external partners to create accurate, structured, and usable BIM content that supports design coordination, construction planning, installation readiness, and long-term facility documentation.
- Develop, maintain, and update Autodesk Revit models representing existing and proposed facility systems. Support the creation of a consolidated BIM environment that integrates architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other infrastructure information into a coordinated model.
- Convert legacy 2D drawings, schematics, field sketches, and existing documentation into structured 3D BIM elements. Create and update Revit objects and systems based on available documentation, field data, and engineering input.
- Integrate and coordinate BIM models from internal teams, external design consultants, and other technical contributors into a unified model environment. Support multi-disciplinary coordination across building systems, facility infrastructure, and project-specific technical systems.
- Perform and support clash detection and coordination workflows. Review identified conflicts, assist with resolution tracking, and coordinate model updates to reflect approved design decisions.
- Interpret point clouds, laser scans, and field-verified data to create accurate Revit model content. Translate incomplete or uncertain information into structured BIM data while clearly documenting assumptions, limitations, and levels of certainty.
- Conduct site visits, as needed, to document existing conditions and incorporate verified information into the BIM model.
- Model and coordinate facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical distribution, and infrastructure supporting experimental or technical equipment. Develop system drawings, schematics, and documentation derived from BIM models, existing records, and field conditions.
- Assist engineers and designers in evaluating design approaches, identifying coordination issues, and supporting integrated facility solutions.
- Perform quality control checks of BIM content to ensure accuracy, consistency, usability, and compliance with project modeling standards. Maintain model organization, naming conventions, system relationships, and documentation practices consistent with project requirements.
- Document changes and updates to building systems to support an accurate and current model representation. Deliver work products that meet technical, quality, schedule, and performance expectations.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, project managers, construction planners, and other stakeholders to ensure models support design intent, constructability, installation planning, and operational needs.
- Communicate technical information clearly and support model reviews, design coordination meetings, and project planning discussions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Drafting, Design Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and
professional experience. - Minimum of 2 to 5 years of professional experience working with Autodesk Revit in a BIM environment.
- Experience developing, maintaining, and updating coordinated BIM models for building systems.
- Experience working with 3D point clouds, laser scans, or scan-to-BIM workflows.
- Experience producing 2D drawings, schematics, and documentation from BIM models.
- Experience performing or supporting clash detection and design coordination workflows.
- Experience working with integrated building systems, such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical distribution, or related facility infrastructure.
- Experience using AutoCAD or AutoCAD MEP and working with legacy drawing sets.
- Ability to interpret incomplete, outdated, or uncertain documentation and translate it into structured model content.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to model accuracy, organization, and documentation quality.
- Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, designers, project stakeholders, and external partners.
- Strong communication skills and ability to document modeling assumptions, issues, and updates clearly.
- Ability to manage assigned work, meet deadlines, and support project schedule needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on complex technical, industrial, laboratory, accelerator, or research facilities.
- Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud, including model coordination workflows.
- Familiarity with multi-platform coordination environments involving Revit, CAD-based systems, and parametric design tools.
- Experience with Creo Parametric or coordination with mechanical design models and drawings.
- Experience developing or maintaining as-built or facility models intended for long-term operational use.
- Experience supporting construction coordination, installation planning, or field verification activities.
- Familiarity with model standards, BIM execution plans, naming conventions, and model quality-control practices.
- Experience coordinating models across architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and specialized technical systems.
- Experience supporting design teams in high-configuration-control or highly technical environments.
