Data Warehouse Engineer
Location: Phoenix, AZ / Wheeling, WV - Hybrid
Job Type: Long Term Contract.
Role Overview
The Data Warehouse Engineer is responsible for developing, and supporting Snowflake-based data warehousing solutions. The role partners with Data Engineering, Analytics, and Reporting teams to build scalable data models, develop transformations, optimize performance, and support reporting requirements. The engineer contributes to platform stability, security, and operational support while following established architecture, governance, and development standards.
Key Responsibilities
Data Modeling & Architecture
Build enterprise level Snowflake models including conformed dimensions, fact tables, and semantic views.
Document ERDs, modeling assumptions, and physical/logical architectures.
Adhere to established data modeling standards, naming conventions, and performance optimization best practices.
Transformation & Automation
Develop, test, and support SQL transformations across Snowflake data warehouse layers using Snowflake SQL and dbt.
Develop and maintain dbt models and tests that support Informatica data pipelines, ensuring data quality, reliability, and successful deployment to Snowflake environments.
Implement and support Snowflake Tasks, Streams, stored procedures, and scheduled workflows.
Perform unit testing, integration testing, and validation of Snowflake objects and dbt deployments prior to production release.
Support schema changes, data integration activities, and production issue resolution in accordance with established standards.
Environment & Release Management
Participate in Snowflake schema and object deployments using established Git version control processes.
Perform testing and validation of models, views, stored procedures, and security changes prior to deployment.
Maintain source control, versioning, and change documentation for Snowflake database objects using Git.
Security, RBAC & Controls
Implement and maintain Snowflake security configurations, including role-based access controls (RBAC), object permissions, row-level security, and masking policies.
Support audit activities, compliance reviews, and evidence collection as directed by Director of Data Engineering.
Cost Management
Generate and maintain Snowflake consumption and usage reports to support cost monitoring and analysis.
Identify and communicate opportunities for improving warehouse utilization, storage efficiency, and query performance.
Cross Functional Collaboration
Work with Data Engineers to coordinate ingestion design, transformation logic, and schema updates.
Partner with BI teams to optimize datasets for Power BI, Qlik, and analytical tools.
Align with Platform Administrators on environment setup, migrations, and operational readiness.
Collaborate with Platform Administrators and the vendor to ensure reporting platform uptime and timely escalation of reporting issues.
Work with Data Governance teams to apply and validate data quality standards, data classifications, masking policies, and other governance requirements within Snowflake.
Skills & Tools Requirements
Snowflake SQL: 5+ years of advanced SQL development experience, including complex query optimization, data modeling, performance tuning, and ETL/ELT development within Snowflake environments.
Snowflake Administration: 3+ years of hands-on experience administering Snowflake platforms, including security, role-based access control (RBAC), warehouse management, monitoring, performance optimization, and cost governance.
dbt (Data Build Tool): 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data transformation frameworks using dbt, including testing, documentation, and CI/CD integration.
Git / Version Control: 5+ years of experience using Git-based source control systems (GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket) for collaborative development, branching strategies, code reviews, and release management.
CI/CD Pipelines & Deployment Automation: 5+ years of experience implementing and supporting CI/CD pipelines for data warehouse and analytics deployments, including automated testing, code promotion, release management, and deployment automation using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, or equivalent platforms
Financial services experience: Preferred.
Business Objects (SAP BO/Web Intelligence): Preferred.
