The HT Group is seeking a Safety Manager for our paving and roadway reconstruction client in the Dallas, Texas area. This role oversees safety and risk across construction projects and company operations, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations while proactively driving programs that promote a safe and incident-free work environment. This position holds field and office responsibilities and requires a hands-on leader who can effectively operate in both environments.

Responsibilities:
Site Safety & Field Support

  • Develop, implement, and maintain Site Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs); review and update monthly.
  • Lead and support job site safety meetings; train supervisors to run meetings independently.
  • Conduct regular job site inspections to ensure safe work practices and equipment operation.
  • Partner with project teams and subcontractors to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Maintain safety documentation including MSDS, signage, and required postings.
  • Support injured employees with return-to-work programs and light-duty assignments.

Auditing & Reporting

  • Perform routine safety audits and inspections across job sites and facilities.
  • Investigate accidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Track safety metrics, maintain logs, and analyze trends to reduce incidents and costs.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce workers’ compensation costs and improve experience modifiers.

Risk Management

  • Maintain and update emergency response and disaster plans; conduct drills.
  • Lead incident investigations and manage workers’ compensation claims in coordination with internal teams and third parties.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies and safety-related matters.

Training & Compliance

  • Develop and deliver safety training programs (including new hire orientation, equipment use, and hazard awareness).
  • Facilitate first aid/CPR training and maintain training records.
  • Review and prequalify subcontractors’ safety programs and ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Oversee fleet safety, driver qualifications, and substance abuse programs.
  • Manage hazardous materials processes and ensure proper handling and documentation.

Leadership & Communication

  • Act as a safety resource for leadership, field teams, and subcontractors.
  • Regularly communicate with executive leadership on safety performance and issues.
  • Represent the company in industry and community safety initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or related field preferred.
  • Heavy Civil, paving, bridges, roadway or similar experience.
  • Certifications such as CSP, CIH, or CHST preferred.
  • 10+ years of safety experience, including 5+ years in construction.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and related regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
