Job description

Labcorp is a leader in diagnostics, drug development and healthcare innovation. Across every role, we harness data and AI to work smarter, move faster and create breakthrough solutions that improve health outcomes for people. With our global scale and deep expertise, you'll do meaningful work, grow your career and make a real impact. Together, we're improving health and improving lives.

Labcorp is a global leader in diagnostic testing and drug development solutions, helping healthcare providers, researchers, and patients make informed decisions that advance care. Join us in our mission to improve health and improve lives.

Work Schedule

This is a full‑time, exempt (salaried) position assigned to a First Shift schedule, with standard business hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in your time zone. Business needs may occasionally require flexibility in work hours, including earlier, later, or additional hours, with reasonable notice provided when possible.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and deliver the team's vision and roadmap by combining deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership
  • Communicate and promote the value of the platform to engineering teams and business stakeholders
  • Understand stakeholder requirements and translate them into outstanding developer experiences
  • Work across all subject areas with partners to move software initiatives forward and ensure internal adoption
  • Build a team environment where engineers are empowered to grow in their skills and responsibilities while delivering their best work
  • Lead the team from ambiguity to clarity by maintaining stability, transparency, and alignment with business objectives
  • Analyze data from multiple sources and help the team make the right trade-offs between capability, cost, engineering complexity, and other factors
  • Define, track, and report on key metrics related to your team's software systems
  • Maintain the team's focus on the shared vision

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 7 or more years of software development and management experience
  • 2 or more years of experience managing a team of software engineers and participating in the entire employee lifecycle: recruiting, onboarding, and performance and growth management

ADDITIONAL JOB STANDARDS

  • Proven ability to lead internal platform initiatives from inception to production with internal and external customers
  • Proficiency in one or more technical stacks from infrastructure to application code, with strong full-stack application development experience. We use AWS, Python, Django, Kotlin, Spring Boot, TypeScript, Kafka, RabbitMQ, and React on Kubernetes, with GitHub Actions for CI/CD and New Relic as the observability and monitoring platform
  • Experience balancing operations, maintenance, and new projects in a pragmatic way
  • Deep technical knowledge of web application architectures, APIs, and developer tools
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and reconcile misalignment across engineering teams, product teams, and business collaborators
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present sophisticated data and information clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences, including executives and technical and non-technical leaders

You will work alongside some of the world's experts in genetics and healthcare at the forefront of genetic medicine. We have built a culture that empowers our teams to have the most significant impact and to explore their interests and capabilities. We prize freedom with accountability and offer significant flexibility, excellent benefits, and competitive compensation.

The Sample to Answer (S2A) Center of Excellence brings genetics into mainstream medicine by building the platforms that power genomic testing at scale. Our mission is to contribute to the evolution of a robust, enterprise-grade Sample to Answer platform that will cement Labcorp's leadership in genomics. Lab Platform sits at the core of S2A. We own the custom-built software systems that carry a sample from accessioning through data generation, the systems that have enabled us to scale to millions of samples processed. We address horizontal requirements like monitoring, alerting, security, scalability, and technology transformation at the platform level. This lets our product teams focus on delivering new tests to customers quickly. The genetic testing space is moving and growing quickly. Our systems need to be reliable, scalable, and easy to build on. We are looking for an engineering leader who can guide us through this transformation. Your experience, passion, and leadership skills will lay the foundation for our continued success.

As Manager, Software Engineering, you will lead a team of software engineers, own the engineering roadmap, and collaborate with business stakeholders across the S2A organization. You will translate platform strategy into outstanding developer experiences, balance operations with new delivery, and build a team that is empowered to grow while doing its best work.
