Development Director on behalf of our client, a historic public charter school recognized for its deep community roots, exceptional family engagement, and unwavering commitment to educational excellence and empowerment. This full-time, hybrid position is available for immediate hire in Dallas, TX.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Development Director will be the first in the organization’s history to serve as a key strategic partner to the Executive Leader and reporting directly to the Board of Directors. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to build and formalize a comprehensive fundraising structure from the ground up, laying the foundation for long-term sustainability and deeper community impact. The ideal candidate brings both strategic vision and hands-on execution, capable of designing systems while personally cultivating relationships and driving results. Grounded in mission rather than black-tie fundraising, this role focuses on authentic engagement, storytelling, and donor stewardship that directly advance educational access and opportunity.
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Build and lead all aspects of the organization’s development function, including fundraising strategy, donor relations, and grant management.
- Serve as the organization’s primary grant writer, identifying and securing new sources of funding.
- Partner closely with the Board Chair and Board of Directors to design and implement major fundraising initiatives and campaigns.
- Develop and formalize a sustainable fundraising structure, including donor engagement systems, stewardship plans, and giving programs.
- Strengthen and expand the organization’s foundation to ensure long-term financial stability and community impact.
- Cultivate and maintain meaningful relationships with individuals, foundations, and community partners.
- Enhance the organization’s visibility and storytelling through consistent messaging, presentations, and donor communications.
- Coordinate fundraising events and community engagement activities that authentically reflect the mission and values of the school.
- Track, evaluate, and report fundraising progress to the Board, maintaining transparency and accountability in all development activities.
QUALIFICATIONS: - Proven success in nonprofit fundraising and development, with experience creating and implementing donor strategies that drive measurable results.
- Strong grant writing skills and familiarity with local, state, and national funding opportunities.
- Deep understanding of the Dallas philanthropic landscape and ability to build authentic, trust-based relationships across diverse communities.
- Experience in education, community-based, or faith-aligned nonprofit organizations preferred.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to build new systems and processes from the ground up.
- Exceptional communication and storytelling abilities, with a talent for connecting mission to impact.
- Strategic thinker who is also comfortable executing day-to-day development activities.
- Collaborative and community-oriented, able to work effectively with families, donors, board members, and staff.
- Local candidate strongly preferred.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: In addition to a competitive salary range of $75,000–$100,000 (DOE), this position includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage; paid vacation; sick leave; and twelve paid holidays each year.
