KITCO Fiber Optics, Inc., a Marmon Holdings Company, we are a leading provider of fiber optic and electrical termination products, training, and consulting services to the military and harsh environment communications industries. We specialize in the design and fabrication of fiber optic and electrical tools, tool kits, and custom cable assemblies. Our field services division also performs on-site termination, splicing, troubleshooting and testing support, and our training division provides hands-on training and certification programs. We are looking for a Fiber Engineer at our home office, located in Norfolk, VA.
Basic functions include:
Analyzing customer and company requirements to develop standard and custom fiber optic cable assemblies and related products. Working with customers, business development, and engineering teams to integrate customer requirements and product customization/development.
Responsibilities
- Work with customers to develop solutions to their harsh environment communications needs.
- Be able to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. Must be able to recreate drawings in a simplified manner.
- Provide product, service, or equipment technical and engineering information to internal and external customers.
- Become subject matter expert for connectivity products.
- Prepare cost estimates by studying drawings, plans, and related customer documents; consulting with engineers and other professional and technical personnel at customer and supplier sites.
- Communicate customer expectations and provide project status updates to sales.
- Identify opportunities for improvement(s) of new and existing products.
- Comply with quality system and industry requirements by studying existing and new changes to hardware and networking platforms.
- Work with supply chain and manufacturing departments to ensure designs are cost effective and designed for manufacturability.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision while maintaining an eye toward safety, quality, and high product standards.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with emphasis on active listening and technical documentation. Must be able to reinterpret and communicate high level technical jargon in a simplified manner
- Must have the ability to organize, coordinate and prioritize workload and to meet deadlines.
Skills and Experiences
- Associate degree in engineering or related technical discipline or equivalent experience, Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Demonstrated intermediate skill with Microsoft Access, Excel, Word and Power Point
- Experience with Auto CAD or related engineering drawing and schematic software
- Experience with Solid Works
- Military and harsh environment Fiber Optic and Signal Cable (including cable infrastructure) experience, Coaxial product/technical experience preferred
