Driver's Trainee
All Driver's Trainees ("Trainees") employed by Athens Services are responsible for all assigned waste collection. It is expected that every Trainee employee will conduct his/her self in a professional manner at all times and perform all duties as assigned in a safe manner. The primary duty of all Trainee personnel is to aid the efforts of the driver and be a second set of eyes on the road to prevent accidents and injuries. Commercial Trainees are responsible for the collection and hand loading of commercial and residential waste. Our Trainees must also be able to communicate professionally with customers, dispatch, and supervisors. The Trainee role is the first step towards a fulfilling career in commercial driving. This role is intended to last between 12-48 months, depending on performance, skills development, and interest. An employee must serve a minimum of 12 months and no more than a maximum of 48 months before graduating with a Trainee Graduation Certificate and promoting to a Scout role. For those who choose not to pursue the path of becoming a Scout, the Trainee role will conclude after 48 months. However, Athens values diverse talents and interests, and employees are encouraged to explore other available roles within the company for which they may be qualified.
Job Description
Assist in picking up and transporting waste safely, according to all federal, state and local rules and regulations.
Pick up specified waste from each customer site scheduled for the day.
Ensure that customers have packaged and prepared the waste according to all federal, state and local rules and regulations before transporting.
Provide the highest level of customer service to assigned accounts daily.
Communicating any issues to Operations Manager, Route Supervisor or Dispatcher for resolution. This includes re-routes, adjustments in container sizes, training, etc.
Ensure waste, supplies, and material handling equipment is secured prior to operating vehicle on public highway.
Respects the property of all residential and commercial customers.
Responsible for cleaning the inside and exterior of the trucks on a regular basis and reports any observed maintenance problems.
Must work safely and carefully to prevent injury to self and others while loading and unloading vehicle.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma / G.E.D.
Valid Class C Driver's License.
Acceptable Driver Record.
Exceptional Communication Skills.
Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual English / Spanish
Work experience in the waste, environmental services, energy, or transportation industry.

Physical:
Bins may exceed 1000 pounds in weight. Please note that while bins have wheels for assisted movement, employees will be required to physically push, pull, and lift bins up hills and uneven terrain.
Continuously grasping, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, twisting, stooping, walking on uneven surfaces and lifting up to 75 lb. frequently.
Frequent entry and exit from a truck, up to 150 times daily, involving using steps to access an elevated seat.
Able to work standing and/or sitting for long periods of time.
Standing, walking, seeing, hearing, & smelling continuously.
Problem solving, oral/written communication, analytical ability, concentration, & interpersonal abilities continuously.
Eye/hand coordination, handling, & wrist motion continuously.
Environmental:
Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, odors, grease, oil, chemicals, wet/hot conditions, & noise continuously.
Works outside only.
Working in Windy/Hot/Cold/Wet environments, working around heavy equipment, working among refuse and exposed to dusty conditions.
F requent exposure to traffic, being aware of all your surroundings, maintain a high level of communication with others.
Salary: $20.62 - $21.37 per hour
