Classroom Teacher

TITLE: 7-12 Family & Consumer Science Teacher

DEPARTMENT: Junior High/High School Staff

REPORTS TO: Building Principals

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Director of Teaching & Learning and Building Instructional Coaches

BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring a high-quality educational program that meets the individual learning and social-emotional needs of all students.

KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION:

Required:

  1. Valid Iowa Teaching License (appropriate endorsements as required by posting)
  2. Knowledge of subject, curriculum, and effective teaching practices

Desired:

  1. Previous experience in similar position with grades 7-12
  2. Desired Endorsements
    1. 5-12 Family and Consumer Sciences - General - 139 or 5-12 Consumer/Homemaking Education - 303

INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides direct instruction to students in individual, small group, and/or full classroom settings.
  2. Uses identified student needs to guide the learning process toward student achievement of district's core content standards.
  3. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects using formal and informal assessment data aligned to the Iowa Core and Winterset standards.
  4. Uses a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with core content standards and the needs/capabilities of individual students.
  5. Creates a classroom environment that is aligned to research-based instruction and conducive to learning as well as appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  6. Plans, implements, and evaluates learning in accordance with established district curriculum expectations.

CLASSROOM RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, administrative guidelines, or specific program requirements.
  2. Conducts student assessments to identify individual student needs to plan instruction, and/or to determine intervention strategies.
  3. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides frequent progress reports to parents and students (if applicable).
  4. Collaborates with appropriate building and district personnel regarding student needs.
  5. Develops a social contract with students within each class they teach that follows the principles of Capturing Kids Hearts.
  6. Develops and communicates reasonable expectations of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  7. Contacts parents frequently regarding student improvement and conducts conferences.
  8. Implements all district policies and expected practices.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Adheres to the Iowa Teaching Standards.
  2. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships and works cooperatively with students, parents and colleagues.
  3. Meets deadlines, is punctual and completes assigned tasks with minimal assistance.
  4. Participates in discussion or activities focused on using research to improve teaching and learning.
  5. Takes an active interest in the school and community. Attends meetings and serves on staff/district committees.
  6. Other duties as assigned by the principal.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be established in accordance with provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement.

Physical Requirements: Bending, carrying, climbing, travel between job sites, lifting, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking

Working Conditions: Includes extremes of temperature and humidity. Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.
