At Boston Scientific, we’ll give you the opportunity to harness all that’s within you by working in teams of diverse and high-performing employees, tackling some of the most important health industry challenges. With access to the latest tools, information and training, we’ll help you in advancing your skills and career. Here, you’ll be supported in progressing – whatever your ambitions.

About the role:

As a champion of environmental, health, and safety values at Boston Scientific, the Senior EHS Specialist, Environmental, creates and maintains programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with company standards and relevant regulations. This role serves as a site resource for environmental concerns, ensuring the company meets and complies with all applicable air, water, and solid-waste regulations at the federal, state, and local levels, while also providing general EHS support across the site.

This position provides guidance, training, and support, while fostering engagement and contributions from EHS colleagues, internal stakeholders, and external partners to drive continuous improvement and sustainability initiatives.

Work model & sponsorship:

This position follows an onsite work model and requires employees to work from our Arden Hills, Minnesota, location. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing environmental and general EHS site support for internal customers including manufacturing, process development, R&D laboratories, facilities, and engineering teams.
  • Support and drive continuous improvement of the site's Environmental Management System (EMS) and support ISO 14001 certification activities.
  • Enforcing environmental regulations to uphold compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory laws by ensuring established procedures are followed correctly; maintaining the schedule of applications, forms, and permits required for the company’s operations.
  • Developing and implementing programs to prevent or correct unsafe environmental conditions, utilizing knowledge of manufacturing processes, chemistry, laws, and environmental regulations.
  • Leading and supporting environmental compliance programs related to air emissions, water, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste, universal waste, solid waste, chemical management, and spill prevention.
  • Certifying the company’s compliance with regulations by analyzing operating records and test reports, and/or by personal observation and investigation, to determine conformance to established procedures, methods, and standards.
  • Conducting audits, self-assessments, and inspections to ensure workplace conditions comply with internal policies, program requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conducting risk assessments on processes, equipment, chemicals, and waste streams; identifying compliance concerns, program non-conformities, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Leading incident investigations, root cause analysis, and after-action reviews; collaborating with process owners to develop and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Supporting site sustainability initiatives focused on waste minimization, energy and water conservation, recycling, greenhouse gas reduction, responsible resource conservation, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Corresponding and interacting with regulatory agencies, including federal, state, and local; conducting agency representatives through site facilities to explain operations and verify compliance.
  • Providing technical guidance to management regarding environment-related issues, concerns, and regulatory compliance through personal expertise or by referring to the correct source(s).
  • Staying abreast to changing environmental legislation and communicating significant regulatory changes and implementation strategies to affected stakeholders.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with contracted environmental services, waste vendors, and consultants to support compliant and cost-effective program execution.
  • Developing and delivering environmental and sustainability training to employees, contractors, and site stakeholders.
  • Leading and supporting EHS-related teams, task projects, and cross-functional teams; serving as a resource for environmental compliance and sustainability best practices.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, chemistry, occupational safety, environmental management, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with environmental, health, and safety regulations, compliance programs, policy development, procedure implementation, and program management.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience supporting environmental compliance programs in an industrial, manufacturing, laboratory, or regulated environment.
  • Experience with environmental regulatory requirements related to air emissions, water, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste, chemical management, spill prevention, or emergency response.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical guidance for cross-functional teams.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and/or Associate Safety Professional (ASP).
  • Experience implementing and maintaining ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems or comparable environmental compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with sustainability initiatives such as waste reduction, energy and water conservation, recycling, emissions tracking, or environmental performance metrics.
  • Experience with environmental permitting, agency inspections, regulatory reporting, and environmental data management systems.
  • Experience working in the pharmaceutical, medical device, electronics, biotechnology, or similarly regulated industry.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence, lead, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
