Job description

Sierra Space Careers:

At Sierra Space, we build the missions and systems that keep our world secure in the domain above Earth.

Sierra Space team members share a spirit of innovation and collaboration and a belief that we can deliver on the boldest missions in space today. Together with our customers, we aim to safeguard our nation, sustain human presence in space, and secure the freedom of operations in low Earth orbit and beyond.

Our success is measured by the trust of those who rely on what we build and deliver, and our technologies keep the United States and its allies mission-ready throughout space.

We are mission-driven, and together, we are an extraordinary team.

About the Role

The Space Planning & Construction Project Manager leads the strategic development and execution of workspace solutions across office, manufacturing, and laboratory environments. This role combines expertise in space planning with construction project management to create optimized, functional spaces that meet both immediate operational needs and long-term organizational goals. The position oversees the complete project lifecycle—from initial space programming and needs assessment through design development, construction execution, and occupancy. Working collaboratively with stakeholders, this individual translates business requirements into efficient space plans before managing the construction implementation. They ensure all projects align with company standards, optimize space utilization, enhance workplace functionality, and create environments that support employee productivity while maintaining budget discipline and schedule integrity. This role serves as the bridge between conceptual space planning and practical construction execution, delivering cohesive workspace solutions that advance Sierra Space's mission.

About You

Our mission is driven by an unyielding commitment to advancing space-based technology in service of our customers and safeguarding national security. We seek individuals who are passionate about innovating beyond boundaries and relentlessly pursuing solutions that protect, preserve and empower – to join us in this critical mission.

We’re looking for team members who align with our values, mission and goals – while also meeting the minimum qualifications below. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead comprehensive space planning initiatives to optimize workspace layout, adjacency relationships, and functional requirements before developing construction implementation strategies

  • Conduct space programming assessments, including stakeholder interviews, to understand operational needs and translate them into effective space plans and layouts

  • Develop detailed space allocation plans, furniture layouts, and occupancy strategies that create productive work environments while supporting team collaboration

  • Manage end-to-end tenant improvement (TI) projects from conceptual design through construction completion, ensuring seamless integration of space planning concepts into built environments

  • Create and maintain project schedules, budgets, and risk registers while ensuring all documentation accurately reflects both planning and construction phases

  • Coordinate with architects, designers, and engineers to develop construction documents that effectively implement approved space plans

  • Visit project sites (primarily in Colorado and Wisconsin) to ensure construction execution aligns with intended space planning objectives and design intent

  • Review lease agreements to confirm space planning possibilities and execute all required landlord notifications and approval processes

  • Serve as the primary liaison between internal stakeholders, design professionals, and construction teams to maintain alignment throughout planning and implementation

  • Oversee contractor and vendor performance while ensuring adherence to design intent, quality standards, and space utilization goals

  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation with emphasis on space planning metrics, utilization data, and construction quality assurance

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree; or Masters +3 yrs experience).

  • Typically 5+ years of related experience.

  • Prior experience with increasing responsibilities in project management.

  • Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is highly recommended.

  • Advanced project coordination and administrative skills.

  • Solid understanding of project management methodologies and processes.

  • Ability to integrate internal efforts and coordinate cross-functional teams.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with space planning and management software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or similar tools)

  • Proficiency in project management software such as Microsoft Project or Smartsheet

  • Knowledge of workplace design principles and contemporary space utilization approaches

  • Proven track record in both space planning and construction management for office, manufacturing, and laboratory environments

  • Experience with programming diverse workspace types including open office, collaborative areas, specialized work zones, and technical spaces

  • Strong knowledge of lease administration processes and space allocation constraints

  • Demonstrated success managing project budgets and working with internal stakeholders across multiple states

  • Willingness and ability to travel between project sites in multiple states as required

  • Experience with change management related to workspace transitions and occupancy planning

  • Excellent analytical skills with ability to evaluate space utilization metrics and construction performance data

  • Demonstrated expertise in vendor and contractor management throughout planning and implementation phases

  • Experience with risk management in both space planning and construction contexts

  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while maintaining quality standards

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to guide stakeholders through both planning and construction processes

Compensation:

Pay Range:

$111,285.00 - $153,015.75

Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.
