Job description

ARCHER HOTEL AUSTIN

Archer Hotel Austin, a Texas-chic boutique hotel in northwest Austin at Domain NORTHSIDE, welcomes guests with 171 luxe guest rooms and balcony-clad suites, the buzzy first-floor AKB hotel bar, a second-floor Pool Patio and 19,245 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor meeting and event space.

The AAA Four Diamond, Forbes Four-Star hotel is part of the award-winning Archer Hotel collection — chock-full of thoughtful touches and local discoveries, and consistently ranking at the top of trusted review sites.

The hotel is just off the N. Mopac Expressway in the heart of Domain NORTHSIDE, on Palm Way and across the street from Northside Lawn — with free employee parking in a nearby covered parking lot.

LodgeWorks is actively hiring for a Chief Engineer.

Who we are

LodgeWorks is a privately held hotel development and management company. While our name isn't on the hotels themselves, our extraordinary culture is at the heart of our 18 hotels — including our award-winning Archer Hotel boutique collection and our portfolio of other great brands with familiar names, such as Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Aloft, Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Inn.

We're thrilled to be considered industry innovators with a rich 35+ year history. Yet, what we are most proud of is the strong family culture we have developed and maintained while growing to 950+ employees nationwide. At LodgeWorks, hospitality is more than just the industry in which we work; it defines everything we do. Maybe it's because we're grounded in Midwestern hospitality (our home office is in Wichita, Kansas, while our hotels are scattered across the U.S.). Or maybe it's because we actively work to make hospitality (with each other, our guests, our clients and partners) the foundation upon which everything is built.

Job overview

The Chief Engineer is responsible for managing the Engineering Department staff and all of the hotel maintenance needs, inside and out. This position will oversee the day-to-day operations, all maintenance requests and the service and repair of all equipment while supporting the LodgeWorks goals of guest satisfaction, cost control and profitability.

As a leader in your department, you will also work alongside your team while participating in the LodgeWorks Preventative Maintenance program to ensure that all guest rooms and public spaces meet LodgeWorks/Brand standards.

In addition, you will also oversee frequent safety checks and quarterly checklists with the expectation of being proactive and finding and correcting any would-be issue before it becomes an issue.

  • Delegating maintenance requests, managing improvement projects, and developing preventative maintenance programs.

  • Ensuring the mechanical status of property and maintenance equipment. Ensure we keep proper logs on service and warranty of all equipment.
  • Evaluating and spot-checking the work of all staff and contractors or outside laborers.

  • Monitoring inventory levels to ensure adequate supplies are on hand to provide top quality guest services.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to provide clear direction to the staff.
  • Comply with LodgeWorks' standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Assist with Loss Prevention of the property to ensure the safety and security of guests and team members.

  • Creation of SOP's as needed to ensure compliance and operational efficiency
  • Understanding and the ability to budget and plan for capital improvements.
  • Train on and follow all company safety practices such as wearing personal protective equipment, reading chemical warning labels, maintaining an M.S.D.S. book, and other safe work practices.
  • Establish and maintain key control system and procedures.
  • Possess a complete understanding and working ability to manage the operations of the Engineering department.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local jurisdictions with building, health, fire & life safety at all times.
  • Serves on Safety Committee and maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner. Be aware of hazardous areas. Works to ensure the safety of our guests and associates.
  • Assist in any other task or duties as requested by management.
