Piper Companies is seeking a Building Engineer to support a regulated life sciences organization for an onsite 6-month, contract role based in Silver Spring, Maryland. This Building Engineer position will play a hands-on role maintaining and supporting critical building systems within a pharmaceutical and laboratory environment through the end of the year.
Responsibilities of the Building Engineer include:
· Operate, monitor, and service facility systems such as HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, mechanical equipment, and building automation platforms.
· Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and troubleshooting to ensure infrastructure reliability and regulatory readiness.
· Respond to alarms, service requests, and urgent facility issues, including participation in an on-call rotation as needed.
· Partner with external vendors, contractors, and internal teams to support repairs, inspections, shutdowns, and small capital projects.
· Document all maintenance activities, work orders, and compliance-related tasks accurately within CMMS systems.
Qualifications for the Building Engineer include:
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in a building engineering or facilities maintenance role within a GMP, biopharma, laboratory, or other regulated environment.
· Strong technical background supporting HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical building systems.
· Experience working with CMMS platforms and building automation systems (such as Siemens or Schneider).
· Ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex facility and equipment issues in a hands-on setting.
· EPA Universal Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
· Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across operations, engineering, and vendor teams.
· Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
Compensation for the Building Engineer:
Salary Range: $94,000-$104,000/year (USD)
