About the Role
In this role, you are responsible for compiling the most important and relevant artifacts of Gap Inc.'s history. You arrange, catalogue, exhibit, and maintain collections and records of valuable material for Gap Inc. and expand their physical and digital access. With your knowledge of our brands’ histories and approachable, resourceful demeanor, you will respond to research requests, partner on collaborative projects, and lead tours and appointments for leaders and high-profile partners. The Archivist role will supervise a contractor / assistant focused on day-to-day project management and employee engagement activities. This role further complements the overall team by supporting archives process and workflow between corporate hubs.
What You'll Do
Leads ongoing organization and growth of corporate archival collection, with an emphasis on expanding access
Leads digitization efforts of the corporate archives and asset ingestion
Partners with brands and various Gap Inc. teams on ongoing archival intake and research requests
Hosts high-level tours for leadership and key partners
Collaborates with NY-based design archives team on projects and research
Supports Senior Manager in storytelling initiatives, development of policies and procedures, and project management / request workflow
Supervises and collaborates with Archives Assistant on activations, installations, and other engagement initiatives at corporate hub(s)
Maintains onsite and offsite storage spaces to support growth and effective use of archives
Partners with DAM and GapTech teams on platform testing and upgrades
Manages freelance teams and vendor relationships as needed
General project management and other duties as assigned
Who You Are
Demonstrated ability to evaluate and process physical and digital records for archival intake
Demonstrated organizational and project management skills with strong attention to detail
Advanced proficiency in digital asset management systems and archival platforms
Extensive experience using word processing, spreadsheet, and digital imaging software
Strong communication, customer service and writing skills; ability to be a self-starter that works independently or within a team
Experience presenting to high-level stakeholders
Ability to manage and mentor an assistant role, delegate tasks, and offer constructive feedback
Ability to anticipate operational / program issues and develop preventative measures
Creative eye for visual narratives, timelines, and displays, plus interest in fashion, history, and pop culture
Bachelor’s degree; master’s degree or coursework in library science, archival / museum studies, or a related field preferred
Minimum 4 years of experience in archival management, preferably in a corporate environment
