Job description

Job Description

This role offers the opportunity for an experienced Electrical Technician to support a high-volume metal manufacturing plant that processes brass, aluminum, and steel. You will work on modern production equipment and automated systems, focusing on electrical engineering solutions that improve reliability, safety, and efficiency across processes such as cold forming, annealing, machining, heat treating, anodizing, painting, zinc plating, and phoscoating.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain electrical systems and controls for manufacturing equipment used in cold forming, annealing, machining, heat treating, and finishing operations.
  • Support and optimize automated production lines, including equipment used for anodizing, painting, zinc plating, and phoscoating.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues on the plant floor to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical and other electrical engineers to implement process improvements and upgrades to existing machinery.
  • Apply working knowledge of metals, including brass, aluminum, and steel, to ensure electrical systems and controls support safe and effective processing.
  • Contribute to the integration of automation technologies to enhance throughput, quality, and consistency in manufacturing operations.
  • Participate in the commissioning, testing, and validation of new or upgraded equipment and control systems.
  • Document electrical designs, modifications, and maintenance activities in accordance with plant standards and best practices.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing equipment performance and recommending electrical or control system enhancements.
  • Work on-site on the manufacturing floor, providing day-to-day technical support and guidance to operations and maintenance teams.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles as applied to manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Experience with controls and automation systems used in production environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve electrical and control system issues on complex machinery.
  • Comfort working directly on the plant floor alongside production and maintenance teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience supporting processes such as cold forming, annealing, machining, heat treating, and finishing is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with anodizing, paint systems, zinc plating, and phoscoat lines is a plus.
  • Background working with state-of-the-art machining equipment and automated production lines is advantageous.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team of electrical and mechanical engineers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset in a manufacturing setting.

Work Environment

This position is based on-site at a metal manufacturing plant that produces casings and shells for government use. The facility receives brass, aluminum, and steel from approved vendors and operates modern production lines that include cold forming, annealing, machining, heat treating, anodizing, painting, zinc plating, and phoscoating. You will work primarily on the plant floor as part of a team of electrical and mechanical engineers, with plans to add additional engineers to support operations. The environment is fast-paced and hands-on, with regular interaction with production equipment and automated systems. You can expect to work around industrial machinery and finishing lines in a typical manufacturing plant setting.
