Job description

Description of Primary Duties

The Planner will:
  • Coordinate regional transpiration planning activities
  • Facilitate a Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) and Multi-Modal TAC to identify and prioritize rural transportation needs
  • Develop local transportation plans and recommend transportation policies for local governments
  • Assist with the development of local comprehensive plans
  • Assist with the development of land use regulations and policies
  • Assist with the development of grant proposals for community and transportation projects
  • Assist with scoping new planning projects and service contracts
  • Present transportation needs, project overviews, and funding proposals to a variety of audiences
  • Provide administrative services to the APA Missouri Chapter
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Education: A Bachelors degree in city and regional planning or a related field is required.

Experience: Practical experience in planning is required. Experience in transportation planning is preferred, however, experience in rural/small town planning, regional planning, economic and/or community development, or a related field will be considered.

Skills: Knowledge of the principles and practices of urban planning and a strong research background are required. Strong verbal and written communication skills, computer skills, including word processing, database management, graphic design, and presentation software, and the ability to compile and analyze technical and statistical data are required. The ability to work with minimum supervision, meet deadlines, and work efficiently in non-routine situations is required. The ability to work effectively with the public and elected officials is required.

Other: The position requires occasional day travel ( mile radius) and may include occasional overnight stays. The position requires attending occasional evening meetings. Additional Qualifications Strong public speaking ability is preferred. The ability to network in a professional setting is preferred.
