Job Title: Instructional Faculty, Integrated Marketing, Media and Communications
Department: Business and Communications
Reports To: Dr. Patrick Williams, Chair
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary Range: $69,332.19-$77,945.09 (as determined by the Faculty Review Committee upon review of academic and professional credentials of the finalist with summer instruction as Overload at $3100/3 credit course).
Benefits: This position is eligible for Washington Adventist University’s comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement contributions, tuition assistance, and paid leave.
Compensation Determination: Final salary will be based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

SUMMARY
The Department of Business and Communications is seeking qualified faculty for the 2026-2027 academic year to teach courses in digital and social media marketing, integrated marketing communications campaign, marketing research and analytics for a new concentration in integrated marketing, media and communications. The instructional faculty member is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction in the areas of digital and social media marketing, integrated marketing communications campaign, marketing research analytics, public relations writing and media strategy and related activities. She/he will be responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend in any of the schools within Washington Adventist University as assigned. The faculty performs all other duties as directed by the Department Chair, Provost or the President or designee.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates, plans, organizes, and instructs courses in the day, evening, or on weekends in any school within Washington Adventist University and in a manner which advances the institution’s mission and vision.
  • Keeps active at a high level of expertise in the subjects taught and stimulates enthusiasm for those subjects with intentionality specific to the integration of Christian faith and learning.
  • Ensures that each program/class contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, incorporates the use of AI and promotes experiential learning.
  • Chooses textbooks and other instructional materials including classroom and laboratory equipment, in collaboration with Chairs and Deans, as appropriate.
  • Assists in the University’s library collection development by selecting, evaluating, and weeding library resources in each appropriate discipline.
  • Teaches all classes according to an approved course syllabus.
  • Keeps students informed and updated concerning course content, requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements.
  • Keeps students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers and other work.
  • Provides students with a mid-term progress report per policy.
  • Maintains accurate and complete scholastic records.
  • Submits Failure to Report, Early Warning, Notification of Unofficial Withdrawal, and other documentation when appropriate to the Betty Howard Center for Student Success.
  • Files an appropriate course syllabus for each course taught with the appropriate department chair and the Dean’s office.
  • Includes learning outcomes assessments into each course syllabus.
  • Conducts learning outcomes assessments for each course delivered and completes other assessments/evaluations in accordance with University policy.
  • Ensures that assigned classes are held as scheduled for the complete scheduled time.
  • Holds the final exam at the time scheduled in the University’s schedule, unless permission to deviate has been approved by the Provost or designee.
  • Makes suggestions to the Department Chair or the Dean concerning the improvement of the curriculum in keeping with the objectives of the University.
  • Participates in program and curriculum review and development and student learning outcomes initiatives.
  • Uses available college online resources (University website, Desire2Learn, WebAdvisor, etc.). Plans each unit or lesson, both as to content and method, to make each class minute meaningful and effective.
  • Maximizes the learning opportunities for each student.
  • Keeps informed of current trends and new approaches to instruction via professional development activities.
  • Submits annual program budgets to the Department Chair and works closely with the Department Chair on the development of annual budgets, as needed, for approval by the Dean and Provost.
  • Assists with department pre-registration, registration and advising as essential to meet and exceed program enrollment goals.
  • Maintains record of course retention rates and implements strategies to meet retention goals.
  • Serves as an academic advisor to assigned students.
  • Posts and maintains office hours for students.
  • Fully participates in the faculty performance appraisal system, including analysis of student attrition and grade distributions.
  • Submits required reports to the appropriate entities.
  • Attends all faculty meetings, General Assemblies, Convocations, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the President, Provost, Dean or Department Chair.
  • Attends all University commencement ceremonies and departmental events.
  • Becomes familiar and complies with all university policies and procedures.
  • Serves on and provides information to committees as needed or assigned.
  • Actively engages in the co-curricular activities of the University.
  • Conveys University-related information to students in a timely manner as requested by University officials.
  • Completes other work-related responsibilities or duties as assigned by the Department Chair, Dean, Provost, or the President or his/her designee.

Reports directly to the Department Chair or Dean.
Supervision Given:
  • May provide supervision to faculty, staff, and student employees.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include assisting the President and Provost in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:
  • The successful candidate should have an MBA and/or MFA in marketing and media studies and preferably a doctoral degree in a related field.
  • Previous higher education experience preferred.
Teaching Experience:
  • It is strongly desired of the candidate to have evidence of teaching experience in both the online and the traditional settings at the college level as well as a proven track record of work in integrated marketing and communications.
Language Skills:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to various audiences.
