Job Summary
The Specialist, Recreational Sports, under general supervision, assists in the oversight of the recreational center, intramural program, employee leadership programs, and/or administers fitness and wellness programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in the managing, planning, and supervising the day-to-day operations of the E-Sports program and Dusty's Den (Game Room) and marketing of programs.
- Responsible for scheduling of the E-Sports arena, including tryouts, practices, competitions, and open times.
- Ensures all NACE (National Association of Collegiate E-Sports) requirements are met by institution and athletes to maintain eligibility.
- Assists in developing a marketing plan to promote the program through creating graphics, hype videos, player spotlight, and website and social media updates.
- Monitors a comprehensive risk management plan and ensures accident/incident reports are completed by student employees; maintains documentation related to all accidents/incidents.
- Assists in the development of short-range goals for the department's programs and/or operations.
- Develops procedures for documenting departmental business processes.
- Supervises all aspects of assigned program(s). Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating assigned personnel.
- May complete payment transactions and receipt credit cards for the payment of memberships or special services.
- May purchase equipment, perform inventory, and oversee and perform general maintenance.

Additional Responsibilities
- Conducts student employee meetings to communicate University and department expectations.
- Provides supervision to coaches and student coordinators for each of the game titles represented by the program.
- Collaborates with campus departments, student organizations, and community partners to support cooperative programming opportunities and special events.
- Provides excellent customer service by responding to participant inquiries, resolving routine operational concerns, and fostering a welcoming environment.
- Conducts routine inspections of assigned facilities and equipment and coordinates maintenance needs through established reporting procedures.
- Assists with maintaining operational records, participation data, and administrative documentation related to assigned programs and facility operations.
- Assists with the planning and implementation of departmental programs, tournaments, and special events.
Minimum Requirements
- Education Bachelor's degree.
- Experience One year of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Prior supervisory experience including training and staff development.
- Two or more years of related experience to include working with others in a supervising capacity.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Ability to:
- Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Preferred Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Strong computer knowledge
- Time management and customer service skills
Ability to:
- Interact effectively and professionally with the general public and the students served.
- Self-directed to assist in planning, organizing, assessing, and performing tasks.
- Make effective presentations to students, Rec Sports members and TAMIU community.
- Provide excellent customer service and practical problem-solving assistance to internal and external customers.
- Interpret a variety of documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
- Develop effective leadership skills to meet the needs of the program.
License/Professional Certification None
Preferred License/Professional Certification:
- CPR/AED and First Aid Instructor certification.
