Assistant Controller

Location: Seattle, WA
Work Arrangement: Full-Time | In-Office
Compensation: $120,000 – $150,000 base + bonus opportunity

Overview

A well-established real estate investment and development firm is seeking an Assistant Controller to support accounting operations and financial reporting across a portfolio of entities and investment structures.

This role will work closely with finance leadership, investment teams, and asset management to ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain strong internal processes, and support portfolio-level financial oversight. The position also plays a key role in mentoring accounting staff and improving accounting systems and reporting capabilities as the organization continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting

  • Review monthly financial statements, reconciliations, and reporting packages for assigned entities

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting across multiple investment entities and properties

  • Coordinate distribution of financial reports to ownership groups, partners, and lenders

  • Support annual audit and tax preparation processes

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff

  • Manage workloads and reporting deadlines across the team

  • Support training and development of accounting personnel

Cash Management

  • Review capital calls, loan draws, and investor distributions

  • Track equity balances and preferred return calculations where applicable

  • Assist in improving cash management processes across entities

Collaboration & Analysis

  • Work closely with investment managers and asset management teams to analyze financial performance

  • Assist with variance analysis and reporting improvements

  • Review accounting treatment for significant transactions including acquisitions and dispositions

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience

  • Public accounting experience strongly preferred

  • Real estate, development, or investment accounting experience is a plus

Skills

  • Strong Excel and financial reporting capabilities

  • Experience with Yardi, MRI, or similar accounting systems preferred

  • Familiarity with Argus or similar real estate analysis tools is a plus

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $120,000 – $150,000

  • Bonus opportunity based on individual and company performance
