Job Title: Machine Operator

Department: Production

Reports To: Production Manager

Job Summary

The Machine Operator (Slitter) is responsible for the accurate and efficient slitting of printed and unprinted shrink sleeve and pre-form

band materials in accordance with production specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. This role

plays a critical part in ensuring finished materials meet customer expectations for size, alignment, and quality while

supporting overall production flow and deadlines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and adjust slitting equipment used for shrink sleeves and preform bands according to job specifications.
• Review work orders, job tickets, and production schedules to ensure correct material, dimensions, and quantities are produced.
• Inspect materials before, during, and after slitting to verify accuracy, quality, and compliance with specifications.
• Measure and verify slit widths, roll counts, and finished output using appropriate measuring tools.
• Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as needed to maintain efficiency and minimize waste.
• Identify and report material defects, equipment issues, or quality concerns to the Production Manager.
• Complete required production documentation, including job counts, scrap tracking, and quality records.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company safety standards.
• Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout protocols, and operational guidelines.
• Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and workflow.
• Work collaboratively with Press Operators, Quality, and other production team members to meet production goals.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Ability to read and interpret work orders, specifications, and basic production documentation.
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and accuracy.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to make minor machine adjustments.
• Ability to use measuring tools such as rulers, calipers, and gauges.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and safety guidelines.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience in slitting, converting, printing, or manufacturing is preferred, but not required.
• Experience with flexible packaging, shrink sleeves, or label materials is a plus.
• On-the-job training will be provided.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

• Manufacturing environment with exposure to moving machinery, noise, and production materials.
• Required to stand for extended periods and move throughout the production floor.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
• Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of materials and equipment.
• Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

The pay range for this role is:
