Job Title: Sterile Processing Distribution Technician Profession: Tech Specialty: SPD Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Evening Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience, including two (2) years of travel experience. License: Required Certifications: CRCST or CSPDT Must-Have: - Level 1 trauma experience and/or 50+ case days. - Experience with trays, decontamination, and sterilization. - Familiarity with orthopaedics, robotics, laparoscopic, neurosurgery, ENT, cardiovascular, general, trauma, plastics, urology, and gynecology. - Basic computer skills and understanding of basic medical terminology. - Ability to perform detail-oriented work repetitiously for long periods in a fast-paced environment. - Critical thinking skills and the ability to work independently. Description: The Sterile Processing Distribution (SPD) Technician is responsible for decontaminating, disassembling, cleaning, reassembling, packaging, and sterilizing instrumentation. This role ensures that equipment and instrumentation processing meets industry standards for infection control. The technician provides both disposable and reusable equipment for surgical cases, clinics, and nursing units. Responsibilities include performing the reassembly and packaging of instrument sets accurately and efficiently. The technician performs manual and mechanical cleaning of reusable instrumentation and equipment. Instruments are inspected for cleanliness, defects, and proper functionality. The role involves using electronic equipment to inspect electrosurgical instruments and cables for defects. Specialty carts and Omnicells are restocked as necessary, and completed work is documented accurately. Instrument sets must be sterilized in accordance with departmental policies. The technician picks supplies for same day or next day surgical cases and answers telephone calls from customers.
