Sterile Processing Technician
Townsen Memorial Hospital is looking for a Full-Time Sterile Processing Technician to join our team. The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for ensuring a sterile and functioning supply of materials and equipment while maintaining an understanding of microbiology and infection control standards. The Sterile Processing Technician will collect, clean, decontaminate, disinfect and/or sterilize surgical instruments, trays and packs, reusable medical devices and patient care equipment according to established standards and procedures.
Essential functions include operating sterile processing equipment, documenting and maintaining accurate sterilization records, inspecting, assembling and testing general and specialty instrumentation for proper functioning, performing simple maintenance on equipment, preparing trays for designated areas according to policies and procedures, ensuring count sheets are correct and updated as necessary, preparing and pulling instruments for cases and assisting with OR readiness, selecting appropriate method of sterilization for equipment or supplies, stocking, managing and documenting inventory appropriately to avoid shortages of supplies and materials, maintaining strict confidentiality of client information, complying with Infection Control, Standard Precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional, and performing other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include the ability to read, communicate effectively and understand medical/surgical terminology, knowledge of reusable surgical instrumentation, micro surgical instrumentation, and power equipment, knowledge of sterile processing equipment, knowledge of cleaning patient care equipment, knowledge of different types of sterilization materials and equipment, knowledge of SPD equipment, troubleshooting and infectious control practices, knowledge of proper equipment usage for accurate uses when pulling instrument for cases, demonstrating knowledge and compliance with HIPAA regulations and state requirements, ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members, ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner, and ability to complete additional educational requirements as assigned by due dates.
Education and experience include a high school diploma or GED, one (1) year of current experience within the last three years in a healthcare setting, SPD Certification from an accredited program, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.
