Job description

MEP Construction Manager

Fleet Data Centers designs, builds, and operates mega-scale data center campuses. Fleet provides its customers flexibility and predictability to meet their upside demand forecasts, addressing a key need in the market as traditional leased models struggle to keep pace with demand for new Cloud and AI infrastructure.

Fleet is led by a team of industry veterans who have already made a lasting imprint on the evolution of global digital infrastructure and are uniquely capable of upleveling data center development scale and operations in the face of rising demand. Fleet brings in-house design, engineering, and operational capabilities to collaborate with customers on tailored solutions for campuses of 500MW+, enabling the world's largest and most sophisticated customers a seamless extension of their own data center fleets with constant access to design innovation.

Fleet is headquartered in Denver, Colorado, with satellite offices in Seattle, WA and Arlington, VA. These positions are located in the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center north of Sparks, NV and require the candidate to be on-site (senior field roles on-site five days per week), located within a commutable distance to the project site.

The MEP Construction Manager plays a critical field leadership role in the fast-tracked execution of Fleet's mega-scale, mission-critical data center campuses. Reporting to the Sr. Construction Manager (MEP) where one is staffed or directly to the Director of Construction when the CM leads the MEP discipline on a campus this role acts as the owner/operator representative for the MEP discipline, directly owning the oversight, safety, quality, and schedule adherence of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and mission-critical systems scopes including medium-to-low voltage electrical distribution, standby/emergency generation, heavy mechanical cooling, integrated controls/BMS, and fire/life-safety and security systems.

This individual drives accountability across General Contractors and trade partners, serving as a key cross-functional link between field execution, internal design and engineering teams, commissioning agents, and Supply Chain.

Key Responsibilities

Project Governance & Delivery

  • Oversee Contract Execution: Hold the General Contractor and MEP tier-1 partners accountable for the execution of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and mission-critical systems scopes.
  • Milestone Protection: Track and safeguard project schedules, budgets, and quality metrics, proactively identifying, escalating, and mitigating critical-path risks.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Coordinate MEP rough-in, systems integration, and energization sequencing with the CSA and power scopes; represent field operations during internal Preconstruction and Design reviews.
  • Owner Oversight: Lead site-based progress evaluations, owner inspections, and MEP milestone sign-offs.

Technical, Quality & Commissioning Oversight

  • Engineering & Quality Assurance: Audit and verify that MV/LV electrical, mechanical cooling, controls/BMS, and mission-critical installations comply with Fleet design documents, engineering specifications, and quality benchmarks.
  • Standards & Reliability: Verify GC compliance with Fleet's high-availability, mission-critical resiliency requirements, building codes, municipal permitting, and engineering specifications.
  • Change Management: Review, validate, and sign off on technical submittals, RFIs, and field changes through Procore.
  • Supply Chain Coordination: Align MEP readiness with the delivery and rigging schedules of long-lead OFCI equipment (e.g., switchgear, generators, chillers, UPS).
  • Commissioning & Turnover: Support MEP participation in Level 1 through Level 5 commissioning with commissioning and operations teams; witness and validate quality documentation and punch-list completion.

Budgeting & Contracts

  • Financial Stewardship: Oversee and forecast MEP-related project budgets, contingencies, and cash-flow tracking.
  • Commercial Procurement Support: Provide field-level technical expertise during RFP processes, contractor onboarding, and bid evaluations for major MEP trade packages.
  • Change Order Auditing: Audit and negotiate contractor change orders and scope clarifications for financial efficiency.

Stakeholder, Risk & Safety

  • Owner Interface: Serve as the point of contact for MEP-related alignment between internal leadership, the GC team, commissioning agents, and external consultants; report progress and risk to the Sr. CM (MEP) where staffed, otherwise to the Director of Construction.
  • Safety Culture Leadership: Drive an incident-free safety culture on-site, including energized-work and high-risk systems safety, auditing GC compliance with EHS requirements, OSHA regulations, and Fleet safety protocols.
  • Risk Mitigation: Drive proactive mitigation of systems integration risks, long-lead equipment exposure, and fast-tracked build schedules.
  • Sustainability Oversight: Ensure GC adherence to energy efficiency and sustainability targets for MEP systems where applicable.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical field leadership experience.
  • 12+ years of experience managing in-building MEP delivery medium-to-low voltage electrical distribution, standby/emergency generation, heavy mechanical cooling, integrated controls/BMS, and mission-critical systems on large-scale, fast-tracked projects. Owner/operator or developer experience preferred; a strong general contractor delivery background, or leadership experience with a well-established mechanical or electrical trade partner at this scale, is also considered.
  • Proven track record enforcing performance on major trade packages, contracts, and schedules for mission-critical projects.
  • Proficiency interpreting MEP designs and specifications and supporting multi-level commissioning (L1L5).
  • Proficiency with Procore (or equivalent project management systems) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience on data center or mission-critical facilities.
  • Strong organizational skills across multiple workstreams.
  • Effective communicator with a collaborative, problem-solving mindset.
  • Detail-oriented self-starter comfortable in a fast-paced, on-site environment.

Compensation Range: $175,000 - $215,000 + Discretionary bonus

Fleet Data Centers employees enjoy comprehensive benefits, including 100% employer-covered medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401K program, standard paid holidays, and unlimited PTO. As these are on-site positions, there is limited travel associated with the roles.
