1. Knowledge of network technology in local-area and wide-area networks including ethernet, token ring, FDDI, routers, switches and concentrators
2. Knowledge of voice, data and video telecommunications technology and other electronic communications technologies such as fire alarm, security and intercoms
3. Knowledge of TCP/IP, IPX and other network protocols
4. Knowledge of capabilities, capacities and limitations of computer hardware and communications devices including routers, switches, concentrators and wiring
5. Knowledge and experience with routers, IP addressing, subnet-masking procedures

7. Knowledge of and willingness to stay abreast of industry trends, innovations and practices

9. Bachelor's degree in related area desirable; equivalent experience in applied setting may be substituted

JOB GOAL: To provide support to district staff and students by performing variety of duties related to installation and
maintenance of network hardware and wiring
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Under general direction, is responsible for broad and complex assignments in support of highly complex, multi-platform network systems
2. Installs local-area network hardware including switches, concentrators and wiring
3. Assists in analyzing users needs relating to local and wide area networks and connectivity between them
4. May be responsible for following activities or related duties: router installations and operations, including IP address and subnet-masking, programming of Cisco 0 and other related routers on network; monitoring and diagnosing problems
related to local-area and wide-area networks; support of district's migration to advanced electronic communication hardware devices
5. Supports interconnectivity, functionality and maintenance of communications equipment
6. Supports installation and maintenance of voice/video and data communications equipment on local-area networks, to include PBX's voice mail and video distribution
7. Provides strategies to support district technology planning and installation needs
8. Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments in networking and related areas of technology, including hardware and software, applies current practices, equipment and materials as needed
9. Install infrastructure communications cabling and hardware

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District's "Improvement of Professional Services" handbook, Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable
NEW PROBATIONARY EMPLOYEES AND PERMANENT EMPLOYEES WHO BECOME PROBATIONARY UPON RECLASSIFICATION:A new employee, or a permanent employee who is changed to a new classification, shall serve a probationary period, which shall not exceed six (6) months of duty time exclusive of leaves of absence or other absences. During this probationary period the employee must meet the required standards of performance to be recommended for permanent status in the classification. A probationary classified service employee may be terminated from the probationary classification at any time without cause, without right of appeal or hearing before the Board of Education. Pursuant to Education Code section , a permanent employee who accepts a promotion and fails to complete the probationary period for that promotional position, shall be employed in the classification from which he or she was promoted.
