Job description

Picker

The Picker operates pallet jacks and other material handling equipment to move materials and finished goods throughout a warehouse and food production environment. This role pulls materials based on work orders, delivers them to production lines, stages completed pallets for shipping, and returns unused materials to inventory locations. The Picker helps maintain accurate inventory by verifying product codes, lot numbers, expiration dates, and quantities, and by recording all inventory movements in the system.

Responsibilities

  • Operate pallet jacks and other material handling equipment to move materials and finished goods safely throughout the warehouse and production floor.
  • Use work orders to collect and pull required materials from designated inventory locations.
  • Deliver materials to production machines and workstations in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Stage finished goods pallets in designated areas for shipping and outbound logistics.
  • Return unused materials to appropriate warehouse locations and ensure proper storage.
  • Pack food products on an assembly line according to established quality and safety standards.
  • Label packages with accurate weight, product information, and other required details.
  • Identify and pull defective or nonconforming products from the production line.
  • Stock workstations with necessary materials to support continuous production flow.
  • Document all inventory movements in the inventory or warehouse management system.
  • Verify product and material details, including lot codes, expiration dates, quantities, and item numbers, to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Use RF scanners or RF scan guns to perform picking, inventory checks, and material tracking.
  • Support general production and material handling tasks as needed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Follow all safety, quality, and food handling procedures while operating equipment and performing daily tasks.

Essential Skills

  • Experience operating pallet jacks and electric pallet jacks in a warehouse or production environment.
  • Proficiency with picking and order picking processes in a warehouse or manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to use RF scanners or RF scan guns for picking, inventory tracking, and material handling.
  • Basic inventory and material handling knowledge, including verifying lot codes, expiration dates, and quantities.
  • Ability to pack and handle food products on an assembly line while following quality and safety standards.
  • Capability to stand for 810+ hour shifts.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Strong attention to detail when labeling packages and verifying product information.
  • Ability to work effectively in a physically active, fast-paced environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • Valid Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license.
  • 12 years of forklift or warehouse manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a food manufacturing or food packaging environment is a plus.
  • Comfort working with sit-down and stand-up equipment in a warehouse setting.
  • Strong reliability and willingness to work a consistent second weekend shift schedule.

Work Environment

This role is based in a warehouse and food manufacturing facility with a focus on forklift and material movement activities. The position follows a 2nd weekend shift schedule from 5:00 PM to 1:30 AM, Thursday through Monday. The environment has moderate noise and temperature levels and is physically active and fast-paced, requiring frequent standing, lifting, and operation of material handling equipment for extended periods. You will regularly work around production lines, pallet jacks, electric pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment in a setting that emphasizes safe handling of food products and adherence to established procedures.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Totowa, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
