Job description

Material Planner

The Material Planner is responsible for ensuring material availability to support production schedules and customer requirements. This position analyzes demand, reviews material requirements generated through the ERP system, monitors inventory levels, and coordinates with Purchasing, Production, Engineering, and suppliers to maintain continuity of supply. The Material Planner identifies material shortages, supports sourcing activities, and helps drive on-time delivery performance. Reports to the Planning Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze ERP-generated material requirements and planning suggestions.
  • Monitor inventory levels, demand, and supply to ensure materials are available to support production and development schedules.
  • Identify material shortages, excess inventory, and potential supply risks
  • Request and obtain supplier quotations for new and existing materials as required
  • Maintain accurate planning parameters, lead times, and material data within the ERP system.
  • Work closely with Production, Scheduling, and Program Management to prioritize material requirements.
  • Monitor open demand and provide recommendations to mitigate potential shortages or delays.
  • Generate and maintain reports related to material availability, shortages, and planning performance.

Education and Experience:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Required Education: High School diploma
  • Preferred Education: AA degree in related discipline
  • Preferred Experience: 3 or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Preferred Experience: 3 or more years of experience with an ERP software, preferably Epicor
  • Experience in material planning, production planning, supply chain, or manufacturing operations
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret bills of material, methods, and production schedules
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
